Who will run in 2020?

I honestly don’t care about anything but the message because it’s not getting done in the next house term. But that doesn’t really matter. What’s important is that we make it the official message of the Democratic party, run on it, win on it, and make standing against it political suicide for Democrats.

I hope you’re joking here, because if a Dem could do better in Texas vs. Cornyn we sure don’t know their name yet.

Yep, everyone in Texas is walking around with AR-15s and they will be legit mad over his stance on that. Stop getting your views about what Texas is like from movies.

All good, but top one has to be

STEYER
Weaknesses: might actually be Mitt Romney

LOL :+1:

I’ll say this for Beto: he took a kamikaze run at the Overton window of the gun control debate. That’s the kind of thing more Dems need to be doing.

Sounds good, I’ll keep getting them from polls. Texas is obviously significantly more pro-gun than the US at large and statements like hell yes we’re going to take your AR-15 are going to turn out pro-gun Republicans in droves. That clip will be playing nonstop on every TV and radio station in Texas if Beeto ever runs statewide again. He couldn’t beat the most unlikeable politician in America even without being hamstrung by that gun view, he’s never going to be elected to statewide office now.

Nearly every position you take on nearly everything is a caricature of a caricature.

Full disclosure: I grew up in Texas, and I guarantee you it was a lot more conservative and gun happy then than it is now. Guns weren’t even that much of a thing that I noticed then outside of the usual suspects.

My position is that Beeto saying “Hell yes we are taking your AR-15” will hurt him in a Texas general election. That’s supported by polling showing that gun control legislation is significantly less popular in Texas than the nation at large. Not sure how that’s a caricature.

The caricature is that you think Texans give a f*** about AR-15s. Add a little nuance, and stop assuming every Texan is an AR-15 carrying psycho.

I did no such thing, obviously. Settle down.

Your whole premise is a caricature, and that’s exactly what you did.

I don’t know the answer to this question, but how many Texans own AR-15s? Most Texans likely don’t give a f*** about AR-15s, and he’s not saying he’s taking away any other guns other than ones like those. I bet that’s way more popular in Texas than your caricatured position is giving it.

I guess we’ll just have to agree that your fever dream hallucination of my position is indeed a caricature and leave it at that

Here you go buddy:

  1. A lot of Texans like guns.
  2. Not many Texans have AR-15s (do not know how many).
  3. Those Texans who have AR-15s will not want Beto taking their guns.
  4. Those Texans who don’t have AR-15s most likely don’t like AR-15s.
  5. Beto will lose all AR-15 owner voters who never would have voted for him anyway.
  6. Beto will gain voters who own guns who do not like AR-15s.
  7. Beto will gain voters who might not otherwise have voted for him because of his strength on this.
  8. Therefore, having your ‘premise’ have the phrase ‘AR-15’ in it is a caricature of a limited position in Texas, because it will affect a vanishingly small amount of Texas voters (AR-15 owners who would have voted for Beto to begin with but now won’t). Plus, practically none of the actual stereotypes you’re speaking of will have ever voted for him anyway.

I just heard a minute ago a Bevin commercial that featured Beto yelling “Hell yes we are taking your AR-15s”

Then the rest of the commercial being slippery slope, all Demoncrats are the same, freedom freedom, Bevin.

btw, bevin is winning right?

Of course. Sure Bevin is a jerk and hasn’t done shit except shit on teachers. But guns and abortion and gg.

Happy to see Warren is catching on to the idea that telling the American public you’re going to put a trillion dollars per year back in their pockets is winning messaging!

I’m still Team Bernie and believe he is the better of the two, but Cenk had and Kyle K recently had a friendly debate on TYT about Bernie vs Warren. Cenk made some pretty good points and I’ll be happy if Warren gets the nom.

Pelosi said Democrats should seek to build on President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act instead of pushing ahead with the more sweeping Medicare for All plan favored by Warren and Sanders that would create a government-run health care system and abolish private insurance.

“Protect the Affordable Care Act — I think that’s the path to health care for all Americans. Medicare For All has its complications,” Pelosi said, adding that “the Affordable Care Act is a better benefit than Medicare.”
