Who will run in 2020?

I couldn’t agree more with skydiver, and boredsocial about Bernie.

Intactivists are weirdos.

Oh man, Biden had another gaffe in addition to the other one mentioned:

‘WE CHOOSE TRUTH OVER FACTS!’

oof. Joe.

go home and rest now

That’s some straight up Veep shit right there. Damn, dude. Go home.

Nap time, Joe.

The dirt nap.

Im obviously still voting Biden over Trump but for me if he is the nominee that is the point all is lost. In a normal world he is everything a progressive should hate. The fact he is better than Trump is little consolation.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-08-09/biden-says-poor-kids-are-just-as-smart-as-white-kids-in-iowa

“We should challenge students in these schools and have advanced placement programs in these schools,” Biden said. “We have this notion that somehow if you’re poor, you cannot do it. Poor kids are just as bright, just as talented, as white kids." He quickly added, "Wealthy kids, black kids, Asian kids, no I really mean it, but think how we think about it.”

Lol this fuckin guy

Your pony must not use Twitter.

In a world where everyone paid at least a little attention to politics AND the media fairly covered all candidates without bias, what would Biden be polling at right now? Over/under 3.5%?

Automatic sundowning of laws is one of those things that is probably a lot more popular in the business community than it is elsewhere. That’s because every single operator I know has found themselves slamming into some ancient law (a lot of our law is 100+ years old) that applies to us for absolutely no good reason and clogs everything up. Yang (I think correctly) perceives that a lot of laws get placed on the books and then just sit there taking up space and making lawyers money forever. He wants there to be fewer, better enforced, laws in this country. About this issue reasonable people could disagree. I don’t think anyone (absolutely including Yang) thinks this would get done, but some version of it where laws expire after say 50 years probably couldn’t hurt. If only to force the legislature to update laws every so often.

He’s proposing 18 year terms for the Supreme Court. If you really think about it all of us sitting here holding our breath about RBG is kinda silly. So was Mitch McConnell starting the political equivalent of a nuclear war to avoid Scalia’s seat going to a Dem. He thinks SCOTUS terms should be predictable, and that an 18 year term wouldn’t change the incentives that SCOTUS justices have all that much. The way we do the SCOTUS now is very likely going to end in the Democrats packing the court… so I don’t think talking about changing the setup away from how we do it now is a particularly bad idea.

The media ombudsman is what I think you’re talking about. Yeah I’m sorry but in case you haven’t noticed our news media gets stuff wrong a LOT and then damn near hide the retraction. This is a particular problem on cable news where some of the channels intentionally lie a lot and don’t retract anything. He thinks that has resulted in a lot of problems and that at this point cable news in particular needs to be forced to loudly retract things when they are simply factually incorrect. If you assumed that this was 90% about Fox News you’d be correct.

One of the things he does on podcasts is answer questions on a wide variety of topics. If you ask him a direct question you get a direct answer to that question (which often is a call back to UBI honestly, but if you ask him a question you’re getting a direct answer). MMA is a huge topic for the Joe Rogan audience and someone asked him about circumcision. No way to connect those to UBI so he answered the questions with his actual opinions. I actually find it kind of charming after watching politicians refuse to even answer hypothetical questions for so many years.

Yeah they aren’t ‘baked in’. People know Biden is a gaffe machine, but they still hear the gaffes. There’s a reason Biden has tried to be nominated for president three times before this time and always failed… dismally.

The guy just isn’t very good at this. That’s going to catch up with him, probably before Iowa.

“Poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids.”

Can you IMAGINE what the reaction in the media would be if Bernie said that?

His brain might be melting faster than Trump’s

I think we forget just how old these people are. If they weren’t lawmakers and rich a lot of them would literally be in an assisted living facility. After your 60’s the decline is pretty rapid for most people. There are exceptions (and I definitely am not throwing stones at Warren who is my first choice) but most people are pretty done in terms of making a meaningful contribution by 75.

Legit serious that no one should be able to hold any federal office after age 75. By that age 90% of people live in a different reality, trying to implement dated solutions for dated problems, and like 75% have non-trivial cognitive decline.

It seems harsh, but it’s not like there are not other people in the world to fill their shoes. We’ve already elected the worst person in the country as president. I’ll be able to cope when a very well qualified 73 year old potential candidate has to step back in favor of a 55 year old candidate who is merely well qualified. Besides, younger presidents have a much better track record, at least over the last 200 years.

Minimum age for POTUS should be like 55.

Lol what? Why would you rule out people in their 30’s and 40’s? That’s most people’s prime working years in terms of ability.

Lol, maybe prime age for NFL quarterbacks or something.

Stop being salty that we don’t like Bernie. It’s getting annoying.
