I don’t know what yggy’s subscription costs, but I assume it’s minimum $5/month? So he’s making $65k/month to troll y’all.

And yet so many people here troll us for free. Guys, if you’re good at something, never do it for free!

“Yeah sure she personified access journalism, but she’s REALLY GOOD at it, so actually you should be praising her”

This stuff reminds me of the early 2000s baseball culture wars (which of course are still on going in some ways) where sabermetrics people would point out that some Traditional Baseball Wisdom was objectively and undeniably wrong, and the Baseball Grumps would always respond with YOU NERDS NEVER PLAYED THE GAME SO YOU CAN’T UNDERSTAND HOW Z IS ACTUALLY GOOD!

I mean the tweet from the atlantic editor is correct, Habs is objectively excellent at this, she doesn’t get that the objections are that “habs is bad at this” it’s “what habs is doing is bad,” just insanely out of touch

Ignoring the theft of classified documents was all part of plan where Donald would later reveal the REAL crimes, I guess

Sticking a gun in someone’s face may not be popular with the uninitiated but what they don’t seem to understand is it’s a tremendous way to get people to give you their wallet.

This stuff shouldn’t surprise me anymore but the whole idea that journalists can only get information by being chummy with the subjects of their investigations is diametrically opposed to the mythology of the American journalist selflessly working around the clock to dig up hidden schemes and hard truths. Obviously collecting a paycheck to hang out with rich people at their golf courses and doing Journalism Pantomime while suppressing public knowledge of their wrong-doing is an easier life, but don’t expect people to praise you for it!

Right. It’s extra concerning that other people in prestige journalism are praising Habs for basically being the Trumps’ prestige outlet PR Flack

A lot of this is due to the economic destruction of newspapers. There is little to no way to build a career in journalism without rich parents. Go look at the bio of any wapo or NYT reporter - it will inevitably be

Exeter
Harvard
Columbia Journalism School

Their entire social circle is the rich assholes they’re ostensibly supposed to be covering.
