What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas. Except Threesomes.

I bought in for about 650 and spent six hours never going below 350 or above 850 until…

Raise to 15. I have A543 with three diamonds in late position. Pot is 63.

Flop is A42r. I have a wheel, top two, and a backdoor nut flush draw. One player leads for 50. Another calls. I raise to 175. Better calls all in, second player jams. I snap. Run out is 98. First player has a set of deuces. Second player shows 76, so I guess 44 makes sense.

Stack up over 1300. I haven’t eaten a meal in over 12 hours. Will probably leave soon.

Cashed out for about 1450. At the advice of a player, now at the Crown and Anchor English pub.

Have ordered a Scotch egg and a full English breakfast. The were out of Blackthorn, so I will have to wash it down with Magners.

I was so hungry, I forgot to take a picture.

Apparently, I ran over a bag of potatoes someone left in the parking garage at my hotel.

I’ve been derelict in providing trip reports from my last four days in Vegas, and I apologize, but there’s really not a lot to tell. I’ve been getting hammered at pai gow primarily. Its all face up now, at least at South Point and though that seems like an advantage, they make all dealer A-high pai gows an automatic push now, and I think that gives them a bigger edge since A-high pai gows suck and are generally beaten. I’ve only had one winning session out of like six attempts.

I’ve played 1-2 NL a couple of times and had minor wins each time. The room is jumpin though. Well over 100 players for routine daily tourneys, and a brisk cash game business. They do quite a few promotions for high hands and random seat draws etc. Its much better than what I remembered from two years ago.

I’m really here though to bowl, and just finished my nine games at USBC Open Championships last night. I did not score well. At all. That’s kind of the expectation when you come here. They make the lane conditions difficult, and probably use new pins, which don’t fall as easily as older ones since they’re not as beaten up and chipped, etc. Anyway, I’m making no money back from bowling. I’ve got to put that aside and do better next year. On the bright side, I scored really well in the state tournament a few weeks earlier and could show a decent profit from that. But Nationals is where a bowler really wants to do well, and I didn’t. Wahhhhhh.

I’ve got a couple more days to refocus on gambling. Probably more poker and I’ll take some time to go downtown and shop for World Series and Super Bowl futures…while playing some low limit casino crap. I guess I’ve burned through about $900 so far. Meh. I’ve had worst trips and it feels good to be doing anything other than whatever it is I’ve been doing the last year.

How do they change the lane conditions? I assumed that was always static.

They have machines that oil the lanes in precise patterns. That will affect the roll of the ball. Since you can’t see the oil, it becomes an exercise of trial and error as you attempt to find the right path and speed for your ball to hit the target. A ball may stay to the right unexpectedly or hook to the left more than you want due to the oil pattern. Local bowling centers use what’s called a “house shot”, which is basically the oil pattern they have determined to lead to the highest scoring among the local duffers. These big tournaments use a “sport shot” with trickier patterns that most players are not accustomed to.

The clip below is not exactly riveting tv, but its well done, and remember, you asked for it.

As a food-oriented person, curious if you’ve checked out their graveyard specials and if you’ve walked by and noticed if the buffet line has been ridiculous.

Things always seems so much simpler when you don’t actually know anything about them!

Thanks I had no idea they even oiled the lanes.

Buffet line seems ridiculous, yes. I’ve had to endure lines to get on the elevator to my room. Seriously. The food in general is not great. But I’m not fussy either. Enjoyed the ziti at Don Vito’s last night. The steak house was average at best. I don’t like the stacked deli sandwiches that are really messy to eat, and they have those. I’m not a huge foodie, and in fact, eating from restaurants for an entire week is one of the traumas I endure on these trips. Not a great cook, but I like making my own meals.

So, got a review of the $1.25 hot dogs by the sports book?

A couple of friends tried them, so I will ask and get back to you. Personally, I wouldn’t do that and then bowl, because as I get older, unexpected digestive anomalies cannot be ruled out. But my friends seemed fine.

Get the half price happy hour shakes at Steak and Shake, because if you’re going to eat mediocre food, it might as well be cheaper. It’s a shame they aren’t 24/7 like other locations.

Assuming you aren’t banking in regular i believe face up actually lowers the house edge a little. I think the casino makes up for it by increasing hands per hour (faster pace of play at face up) and raising table limits, people probably feel more comfortable playing a $25 min when they can play with perfect info.

They say people aren’t allowed to bank any more. And there are a few weird things about face up. They have no mercy on people who mis-set their hands now, and why should they since they can see the dealer’s cards. Players also can benefit from splitting their pair of aces for example if that’s what it takes to get a push against a dealer straight and K-Q or such. But I’ve still seen players blow hands despite the fact they can see what the dealer is playing. I haven’t ruled out just being uncommonly unlucky, as my sample size really isn’t that great.

Nh NBZ. Your starting hand selection is baffling to me.

Looking at the Wizard of Odds site, it’s actually a smaller house advantage for a player who never banks, since there’s no longer the 5% commission (1.8% instead of 2.5-2.7%).

If South Point is still charging 5%, you need to run, not walk, away from the table (unlike my pony, apparently).

No…there’s no commission. I must be just running bad. Its what I do.

Linq had no commission pai gow only pushing on q high

Just check into the D. It has a funky elevator setup where you punch in your floor and it directs you to which elevator to use. No pressing buttons inside the elevator.

They have elevators like this in a building I worked in for years. I got so use to it that when I went to other places that had the old setup I would get in and it would just sit there because I forgot to select my floor. I was just use to stepping on and then elevator go zoom.

The largest version of this that I’ve seen is at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square.
