What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas. Except Threesomes.

I’ll be in Vegas within a week. Staying at South Point where the poker room was largely dead the last time I was there. To be totally honest, living in Florida, I can play poker any time I want. And in Florida, I can find blackjack, but rarely for $10 or less, and there’s a $25 min hand now on Pai Gow. So when I get to Vegas, I think I’ll mainly be playing low limit table games and doing sports bets. That’s the kind of stuff I can’t do so easily in Florida. Maybe I’ll do a poker tournament, but the cash games I’ve played in the past in Vegas have been largely pretty tight…so not really interested.

Yah, that’s a really nice spot actually unless you’re pretty shallow. Just dump most of your hands containing an ace or bad paired hand and call with most everything else. OMC is gonna be terrified on almost every board that he doesn’t improve on.

I love when nits 3-bet me and turn their AAxx face up. Most of the time they make it super obvious when they’ve flopped a flush draw or smashed the board with their side cards as well.

I play zero poker when I go to Vegas, sports betting and table games all day.

Vegas table game mins seem pretty brutal right now. I’m reading the strip as $50 3:2 blackjack, $25 and $50 craps mins. Good thing I’m in a gambling mood with free money from Top Shot Gifs. I’ve never played craps, but I can’t wait to give it a go. Any players here have a “system” they usually default to?

Craps is so high variance to get the best odds. You have to take max odds on everything, in a $10 game you can easily have $300 out there at any time, though it does reduce the hold to like .2% or something similar. Just don’t do the sucker bets like the field or whatever.

There’s no way my bankroll supports max odds on everything with a $25 min. I’ll probably just place and press 6/8 until I win big or go broke for the day. Or I’ll end up drunk at 3 am slamming hard ways.

Did you book South Point because the buffet is open?

South Point’s poker room is currently doing hours to qualify for a freeroll with a $250k prize pool, so I’m guessing all the local nits are flocking there.

I booked there because I’m bowling there in the USBC Open Championships. But I’m not likely to make much money bowling. It will give me something else to do besides gamble though. If I’m getting killed at table games, I may have to check out the poker room. Otherwise, I’ll be in the sports book.

Every guide on craps insists that you find the table that offers the most odds and take the max. Let me be the first person in history to suggest that this is a bad idea for most people. Feel free to flat bet the pass line or just take single odds and occasionally pitch a couple bucks in the middle (may I recommend a two-way puppy paws on the hop).
Ratcheting up the variance for a few cents in EV is just going to burn through your buy-in faster most of the time. And if you are so uptight about the odds why not just play the don’ts for the .01% better return? Or better yet, put that cash in a treasury bond.

Odds behind is a completely free neutral EV bet, so you can go max odds without feeling like you’re giving the casino something extra, but you’re also not actually gaining anything. A $25 pass line bet with $100 behind has exactly the same nominal EV as just a $25 pass line bet.

IMO just bet pass line only, then add odds up to max for however much you feel like gambling in that instance. If you stick to this, craps actually has one of the lowest house edges at the casino both percentage-wise and hourly-wise. Slots may seem like a safer recreational gambling choice since the stakes seem so much lower but the game moves a lot faster and the house edge is a lot higher on each bet so even penny slots you’ll have an hourly that could be up to 20x worse than craps.

I walked from Aria to park multiple times. It’s a breeze.

If you’re trying to grind some PLO while you’re in town, Aria is your only choice really. Wynn occasionally gets 5/5.

Wynn has consistently been getting 1-2 tables since reopening. Venetian often has PLO running during big tournament series. I feel like I do well in cash games at the V because good online players boycotted it due to Adelson, so the games were softer.

Park MGM is supposed to be a shorter walk to the Aria poker room than if you stay at the Aria. I only went to Aria once because I ran bad and found it annoying to drive to.

My personal craps technique (certainly not a system and certainly not optimal EV) goes like this:

  1. Find 10$ table, usually at one of the suburban properties.
  2. Min bet pass line
  3. 2x odds on the pass line
  4. Min Come bet followed by 2x odds
  5. If I don’t have 6 or 8, place one or both for 12 each. Press wins there twice to 24->48 and then start farming profit on subsequent hits.

For me that feels like my “optimal” amount of loading up that feels like it can win on a hot streak and doesn’t insta-bankrupt.

This definitely seems like the least -ev play, but it seems to be lacking on the “fun” ev :). Appreciate the info though!

Is this useful for you?

Admittedly I’ll play 6 and 8 more often than not when I play, but I’m disciplined enough to keep my EV bobbing around the “winning with free drinks” threshold overall.

Just when I thought I had my dinner plans nailed down… I’ve got reservations at the following:

Momofuku
Lotus of Siam
STK
Jaleo
Best Friend

I really wanted to squeeze in Bazaar, but it was a little expensive for the whole group. I need to do some research of good beer bars on the strip.

I wonder what % of people going to Bazaar on the restaurant week menu order the Fois Gras and Wagyu. My guess would be over 80%.

Ways I enjoyed Craps and had some success, betting the insides, 5,6,8,9 and pressing whatever number hits until the button? Hits the point? Bets off and start again was my best strat.

Betting the outsides the same as above, 4,5,9,10 and had little success but when it hit it hit big but overall a losing one same as above as there’s no winning stats for Craps I’d think.

And the standard feel good table start of betting the line except the point and pressing one number until it hits but this stat can only be deployed once every so often while drunk.

Edit: I’ll add numbers if I go on a run and I’m in profit and when throwing ill also add in the centre bets as I’ve thrown a few 11’s in a row before. :muscle:
