What are you reading?

Started listening to Cryptonomicon again and it is still good, might be Stephenson’s best book.

Haha I totally disagree on Three Body Problem. Couldn’t finish those books because of how poorly they were written. At least one standard deviation of quality below any SF book I’ve read . The whole imaginary wife saga was probably the worst thing I’ve read in my life.

So what is your opinion if you have watched the show on netflix? Read the first book anyway or could I start with the 2nd book?

Read the book, as the Netflix show takes many liberties with the original story. And without reading Book 1, you’re certain to get lost later on.

I honestly thought it wasn’t very good - but not terrible. 4/5 out of 10. For me, Pet semetary was very good at getting me to visualize the semetary and the long walk there and what was involved there. I thought that was kind of cool. Also, the digging up his child was pretty strong stuff and very well written and easy to visualize and relate to. I didn’t like the ending with the child - don’t want to get too spoilery but It just went a little too far in terms of a cheezy low grade Halloween flick to where I was like, “alright i kind of saw that coming and get it” and it wasn’t really scary other than just a little too much of a chucky style weirdness.

Im actually reading Salem’s lot and about 60% in. Story wise, it seems far more intriguing and a little better overall compared to PS. Definitely enjoying it. But there are a lot of characters and sometimes I’m thinking “okay who the fuck was that person again” and have to flip back to find out again knowing that I definitely need to know.

the Best King book

Richard Bachman , The Long Walk

I’ll take a look, thanks. I was looking at starting the Dark Tower series. The gunslinger being the first looked kind of cool.

its the worst part of the entire trilogy for sure, but everything after that in book 2 is top tier sci fi

Both are great, The Long Walk is a super quick read though so Id recommend taking that down first. It is one of his great works that is often overlooked.

About 100 pgs into Mistborn. Very fun, the world building is great, the magic system seems really cool, and we are setting up an Oceans 11esque heist? Yes please.

Mistborn is awesome

If you are reading the gunslinger you have to commit to reading book 1 and 2

If you aren’t hooked after two you can stop.

Agreed to this, Book two is the hook point for a very long journey, if its not for you at that point its unlikely it will be later.

I think LKJ is the proof here, I’m pretty sure he wasn’t swept away by 2 and gave up at 4.

It looks like I quit midway through book three, finally realizing the fraud that had been perpetrated upon me by everyone who promised me that the books would get good if I just ate my veggies for the first 15 hours or whatever of the series.

I might end up watching the first 40 minutes of The Godfather just to see the explosion.

I actually agree with Peter Griffith about the Godfather.
