Yep, Stein was my gateway to King. I actually started with Christopher Pike but nobody remembers him
I remember Christopher Pike. Like RL Stein, it’s quite stunning how many books he has written.
Just read Sea of Tranquility. If you like Emily St. John you will like it
Serious David Mitchell vibes.
“It’s the way a man chooses to limit himself that determines his character. A man without habits, consistency, redundancy - and hence boredom - is not human. He’s insane.”
― Luke Rhinehart, [The Dice Man]
“With determination and dice, I am God.”
I just received entire dark tower series and started with #1 obv the gunslinger yesterday. I read like the first 15 pages and was lost and realized i might need a little synopsis on whats going on carefully looked for spoiler free stuff and SK youtube book ratings and noticed that almost everyone said that the book was both very confusing and landed on moat poeples bottom teir rating column. But i decided to read more. I am 200 pages in because ive been unable to put the book down because i enjoy it so much. For some reason, the fact that it is some parallel universe and very limited info about a guy venturing the desert meeting cool people makes me unable to not continue on to find out wtf is going while reading slowely to try to decipher what this place really is.
Its cool that some books that are charactorized as epic masterpieces end up falling short in your mind while the shit that didnt get good ratings keeps you hooked.
Welcome to the road my friend, its my favorite series of all time. Would love to discuss more as you get further along.
Oy!
I’m reading Lisey’s Story now but Dark Tower is on the short list for next. Also considering Duma Key, Under the Dome, and IT…
Heck yeah. Welcome to the road to the tower.
The good news is that even if you find anything confusing, every book starts out with a summary of events so far that’s as good as the books themselves.
Did you ever read the side books he published after finishing the saga? I read the whole series and some of the prequel comic books, but never any of the other books.
Also I have developed a healthy fascination with hunting King books. I’ve been going to Goodwills and looking for his books. Also Facebook Marketplace. The other day I got Carrie and Everything’s Eventual for $7.98!
Goal is to have one of those free little libraries in my front yard but it’s just King books.
I just checked this out from the library. I’m a little nervous to get started. I hear it’s even more disturbing than the movies.
Just an idea but I’m up for doing a book club reading of IT if that interests you. Maybe we can get a few other people. Read a handful of chapters at a time and discuss.
Anyone else interested in an IT book club?
Good idea.
Quite
Side books like Wind Through the Keyhole? Or the companion books like Hearts in Atlantis and Everything Eventual?
Thats awesome. I went to a Goodwill once and found like 25 of the red leather bound books from his book club, and they were selling for 3 bucks a piece. I bought them all.
Id join. Ive read it thrice, but it never hurts to read it again
Like this one.
