What are you actually doing to make a difference?

We don’t need to talk about it anymore
Yesterday’s just a memory
Can we close the door
I just made one mistake
I didn’t know what to say
when you called me baby

I applied yesterday to be a Bernie delegate at the convention. Would be an interesting experience in a city I’ve never been to. Would be an incredible experience if Bernie is the one being the nomination.

Have any of you (in addition than skydiver) traveled to canvass or volunteer? Considering driving up to NH to do something but not sure of the logistics. More likely to wait for NY/PA/NJ though.

I was joking about how you joked about the dumpster girl being me and that nudes girl was actually you. Btw if you run with this you’ll get way more likes for your posts! I apologise that my joke needed an explanation.

Lol nice nice

Normally I do it for free, but this time I’m doing it for charity

I’ve generally avoided overt political involvement for job-related reasons but fuck it, just gave Bernie my first-ever donation. Added in a t-shirt and a few koozies for good measure.

I got a cool opportunity to collect signatures for Bernie to get on the ballot in my state

That I promptly turned down because it’s in the middle of NFL Sunday

Position and Pay
This is a full-time, remote position that can be fulfilled from anywhere in the United States. Salary $40,000-$48,000 depending on experience.

The Sister District Project works to turn states blue by winning state legislative elections. We have a strategic, targeted focus on critical down-ballot, state races that—if we win—will help us fight back against partisan gerrymandering, and expand progressive policies. We do this by “sistering” our volunteer teams with candidates who receive field and fundraising support. Each year, we support a portfolio of races, with the strategic goals of (1) flipping Republican-held state chambers (2) holding fragile Democratic majorities in state chambers, and (3) making blue inroads in badly gerrymandered states. In 2020, we are focused on states where it is our last chance to elect Democrats who will redraw district lines in 2021.

Salary

$52,000

Summary
The Bernie 2020 campaign is seeking a digital associate to join the email team. The Digital Associate will be responsible for helping to operate the campaign’s email list by coding emails and sign-up forms, overseeing targeting, segmentation, and optimization, and monitoring email performance.

While prior campaign experience is not required, the ideal candidate will have experience working on an email team with a focus on grassroots fundraising.

Qualifications

  • Experience using a constituent relationship management tool such as ActionKit, Blue State Digital, Action Network or NGP.
  • Familiarity with ActBlue.
  • Strong attention to detail – the ideal candidate can spot typos and take the time to carefully proof content before it goes out the door.
  • Ability to deliver work products at a fast pace and adapt to a rapidly changing work environment.
  • Campaign experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Ability to thrive in a high-pressure environment that may include long hours, nights, and weekends.

Don’t worry if you don’t have experience using constituent relationship management tools. Like with most jobs, the post asks for everything they want but then compromises on the aptitudes of actual applicants. Learning industry-specific tools is the easiest part if you understand the underlying strategy.

It is what it is.

No worries if it is not right for you.

I’ve lived on $400 a month while dedicating precious hours to volunteer at a community center. I was hungry, but I was fulfilled. That was long before I had a family, but we still live simple lives with a low cost of living.

I personally prefer volunteering for social and political causes rather than getting paid for them. There’s something that switches in my brain when I’m getting paid to do something instead of doing it simply because I want to help.

But if someone were going to pay me, $52k is an outrageous amount of money for something I would have done for free.

Good on you. First time canvassing? Definitely give us a trip report when you finish.

If anyone of you Bernie bros are wanting to help in some way, I can’t stress enough how easy joining the text team is. I’ve gotten a bunch of people to attend organizational events, canvassing events, get out the caucus parties, etc. It’s super simple and it definitely has an effect.

How do I Join the texting team?

Yup it’s my first time and def will report back. They have a lot of buses that take people out from Chicago to Iowa to canvass so felt like it was an easy enough thing to do for a whole day and hopefully can make a difference. I am also getting two female Bernie bro’s to come as well, both of their first times too

Alright, I just finished canvassing in Dike Iowa and am in the car heading back to Waterloo to catch the bus back to Chicago.

Here’s my trip report:

I was surprised on how many people we had that came out to Waterloo. There were about 80 volunteers total in the small campaign office. Our bus brought about 35-40 people and there were a few other buses that went out to other parts of Iowa.

When we got to the office there was food made by one of the local supporters and a lot of Bernie swag (stickers, buttons, yard signs and other things you could take with you to canvass). There were about 6 or 7 designated drivers and the volunteers grouped up with each driver depending how many people the car could carry. Once we were in the groups someone came around and gave each group a few sheets of paper that each had a list number that we put into this app and all the addresses of the houses would load on the app.

Since the primaries are 2 days away the lists were all of people who were likely Bernie supporters. I had about 28 houses to knock on in the town I was in. Most of the people were not home but had about 10 houses that answered. A couple were older folks who’s main concern with Bernie was his health and the rest were people that were either big Bernie supporters or leaning his way. Most of the information I provided was of the local caucus location, time of the caucus and took down info for anyone who might not have a ride there. If they didn’t have a ride then I would take down their info and someone will contact them tomorrow and help with getting them a ride on Monday. My town was extremely small and the caucus place is nearby so I had a fairly easy job.

Overall it was a great experience and I’m very hopeful for Monday. I’m also a big introvert and this was way easier for me than I expected, most people were extremely easy to talk to and very kind. Hopefully I reminded a couple of people to go caucus on Monday and it’ll have an effect on the outcome in a positive way.
