Walrus Quickie Reveal Thread!

Sometimes video kills the (radio) star for me - I take one look at the musicians and it adversely affects my what I think of the song.

So I understood

but that’s just me.

Then there’s the issue of band names…

They do look like a bunch of bell ends, granted.

I appreciate the support and glad you liked it, although judging from your [walrus-crushing] pick in the other thread I’m not sure how much our musical tastes are going to overlap going forward. I do think I may have gone FPS myself when I could’ve just submitted the standard version of the song, but I stayed true to myself and went with the more raw sounding acoustic version that I prefer. From the artist’s comments it seems that the song turned out differently than they had originally intended so they released this version on top of it. Not sure what’s wrong with their outfits but I would buy some fair trade coffee from them in a heartbeat.

OK I’ve got a good feeling that I’m not coming in last again, come oooon walrus!

Let’s reveal category 2! - . A song for a long walk (doesn’t have to be a long song).

These were really good! I get my best listening in while walking, so I had fun listening to these. When I’m at home or working, there’s always something to distract from the music. A long walk and a good playlist is one of life’s greatest little pleasures.

Let’s gooooo

In tenth place: microbet – Jill Scott – “A Long Walk”

A pleasant enough song. Nothing objectionable or particularly gripping. Feels like a Much More Music hit from the 90’s. Take that as either a compliment or a slight. Maybe a little too sexy for my solo walks.

Nice to be able to listen to these in real time, being in GMT.

In ninth place: MimosaDef – Iron and Wine – “Walking Far From Home”

(The youtube link doesn’t work in my region. Hopefully this is the same version)

Iron and Wine are very hit or miss for me. This one’s more of a miss. The mix is a bit off, imo. The vocals are too loud from 2:00-3:00 or so. The synth kicking in after that section is nice, though. Real nice. The man’s got a great beard, too; I’ll give him that.

In eighth place: Smrk4 - Lisa Gerrard - “Sailing to Byzantium”

Seems like a great track for long boat voyage in the middle of the night. Or for a long think on a long walk home, I suppose. It feels a bit “sound tracky,” in that I would expect it to accompany something else rather than stand on its own. Still, a cool track that stands out as something different than the other submissions. The drums kicking in around 2:00 were a nice shift, a satisfying build.

I like that #10 song! It’s got a good hypnotic groove, very conducive to letting your mind wander which seems appropriate for walking music. :+1:

In seventh place: Mjiggy - The 1975 – “Somebody Else”

I get why someone would like this. I think jiggy and I are just a little out of synch. It’s all a bit too well-polished for my tastes. I might just be too lolold to get it. I feel like the song was heavily focus-grouped, and I wasn’t one of the demographics. I do like the opening sample. Sounds like something played in reverse to a nice effect.

In sixth place: DodgerIrish – Radiohead – “All I Need”

A 50th percentile Radiohead track, for me. Which means it’s still better than 90% of music. A nice tempo for a long walk. The piano at 2:45 is a highlight. I’m interested in why you picked this song in particular. Is it one of your favorites? You’ve set me off on a Radiohead binge. Thanks for that.

I’ll let the thread catch up for a few minutes. Back soon with the TOP FIVE.

Eh the 1975 are basically an artsy pop band posing as indie rockers so your analysis makes sense. Not sure how long your strides are but if I were to walk while listening to this song I believe mine would be perfectly in sync with the beat, which is why I chose it.

My tastes tend to run towards the popular and it seems like walrus often skews towards more obscure music so I may be at a disadvantage, but I guess it will also depends on who hosts them in the future.

In Rainbows is one of my top two/three Radiohead albums.

In fifth place: beetlejuice – These arms are snakes – “Energy drink and the long walk home”

Yeah this is cool. I would dig this on a cold night where I want to pick up the pace to keep warm. The synth is a bit meh. But overall, yeah, I can dig this. The mini-solo at 2:40 or so is cool. The last 30 seconds are a little uninspiring. Kinda just deflates rather than ends. Bonus points for submitting a youtube video with less than 500 views.
