Walrus Quarantine Version 1 - Reveal Thread

Well I sympathise - if I’d been at high school from 1996 to 2000 I’d have thought it was a bit shite too, (though clearly better than the 80’s), and that was during the overrated era of Brit pop, Oasis, Blur and the others.

Don’t forget Tom Petty!

yar, I liked jiggy’s roast - it made me laugh (just like his roast of my submission).

I also liked your post because…well…I liked that song too.

But I’m also generally in an aroused state of being during a Walrus reveal so I shower the likes even more liberally.

Just don’t start badmouthing Pulp (I know they were around ages before, maybe that exempts them?).

I also like Blur and some Oasis :frowning:

Like Oasis did a lot of shit music, but prime Liam was ridiculously good front man.

Oh they were much better, I agree. Some of the observations in Common People for example are outstanding and the equal of some of the best lyrics of the original Brit pop of the '60s.

Also a very good example of my point about bands lacking a distinctive “voice” (not necessarily vocals). Pulp had it in spades.

Yes, a great front man for a band that only patchily transcended 70s pub rock.

Blur were like, I thought they were cool when I was 13. But you have to understand, I thought I was cool when I was 13, lol. Explains it all, imo. I’ll nod along to like Parklife or The Universal or whatever, but it’s pure nostalgia for me. I can’t see taking them onboard as new songs. But I’m very picky.

Alright I owe some responses in another thread or two, then I’ll get back to this.

I hated Blur when I was 13 because I only listened to Punk and insisted that any other music is the government trying to brainwash you. I was 13 tho, so I can enjoy Blur songs today.

Dang I thought I could sneak out and do some yardwork before it gets too hot, basking in the confidence that my track would certainly make it to the top half! D’oh!

I still listen to this album once in a while which is why I thought of it, and fwiw I consider it in a completely different universe from the “headbanger” stuff of this era (Korn, Limp Biscut, Creed, etc.)

I also just realized that the part I love about this song is mostly the bridge (2:30-3:10) so maybe I should have submitted it to category 4 instead. :grinning:

This thread is more important. Priorities, man.

Yes, I did like pieces of the song and thought the same because overall it was a slog for me.

OK let’s try to do a few more. Next up in 9th place is another indistinguishable rock song from Miliboo:

Skunk Anansie - Weak

I wanted to like this one because it at least features a non-traditional lead singer but ultimately it got tossed onto the pile. A little less bad and I kind of like the refrain of screaming “weak as I am” but ultimately not something I’ll be listening to more. Enjoy @seities!

Guaranteed to better than double my total. If this trend continues, I could win this thing!

In 8th place, we have SwankyWilder with:

Fatboy Slim - The Rockafeller Skank

OK this was definitely one I enjoyed when it was originally released so not a bad pick. It probably would have done better if I had never heard it before, tbh, as I don’t think it holds up that well on repeat listens. This was probably “driving music” along with stuff like the Chemical Brothers for me and my buddies back in high school. At least we’re through the worst of this round at this point.

It definitely got overplayed.

This has an absolutely ridiculous drop.

By definition you’re through the worst of it at every point.
