Walrus Quarantine Version 1 - Reveal Thread

lol!

Yeah, I honestly was expecting this submission to get some treatment. The reality for me is that Tool was by far the band I listened to the most in that time period, but I have generally been reluctant to submit any Tool songs to a Walrus.

But I also ran playlists during this time period with stuff like Godsmack, Disturbed, etc etc. I figured I would just out myself in this thread with such a submission and receive my comeuppance.

Forever banished with the ā€œheadbangerā€ label. The good news is that, despite being a judgmental ass, I was actually pretty friendly with most of the kids I considered ā€œheadbangersā€, we just ran in different circles.

I always thought that band was called Gobsmack  The more you knowā€¦

Next up, we fulfill the self-prophecy of our resident fatalist TheDuker with a second-to-last finish thanks to:

Dovetail Joint - This is my Home

This was the song I was listening to when I made my above comment about all rock songs sounding alike. I actually like the bit where he sort of mumbleraps along to the chorus but I found the rest of the song to be forgettably bad. Duker also submitted an ā€œalternativeā€ entry, which unfortunately would have scored approximately as poorly. Doesnā€™t look like headbangers will be getting the last laugh itt.

But it does sound like seities is getting some more tracks to add to his playlist!

I like this one Duker. Wallow with me in this pool of Jiggyā€™s disgust.

Hmmm I guess thereā€™s a decent likelihood that everyone decides these songs are great and that I am the fool here. I can live with that, everyone already judges me for liking popular stuff.

Dovetail Joint? Thereā€™s a band I havenā€™t thought of in over two decades.

Did they ever do anything besides ā€œLevel on the Insideā€?

They made this piece of crap, for one.

Hot take incoming: I liked that Dovetail Joint song that Duker submitted.

I like how seities liked both of these posts.

One nice thing about this category is that it seems to have leveled out the scores a bit. In 10th place for three points, we have Chuckleslovakianā€™s entry of:

Harvey Danger - Flagpole Sitta

Was this song a pretty big hit back in the day? I definitely remember it and probably even liked it at the time, but I donā€™t have much desire to listen to it again. Itā€™s catchy to a certain degree but I found the lyrics annoying and didnā€™t want to listen to them again so it ended up dropping pretty hard.

Yes Seities is great. Weā€™re like 2 songs in and the consensus is already that Iā€™m wrong about everything in this category.

Yeah, it was pretty big. Even the pop stations played it.

Iā€™ll just assume everyone still loves it and is rolling their eyes at me.

Being the theme song for Peep Show ruined it for a lot of people. Good track otherwise, never listen to it for that reason.

Well if it helps I agree 100% with you on those two songs

I like this song a lot. A couple absolutely brilliant lines in it.

I assume itā€™s too clever for me. I usually listen to lyrics pretty superficially if Iā€™m being honest.

They arenā€™t complicated or anything. I especially love ā€œhear the voices in my head, I swear to God it sounds like theyā€™re snoringā€.

Thatā€™s just a very bad review from The NY that ignores the differences in musical tradition and attitude between the groups cited.

The Strokes drew heavily (Iā€™m being kind) from the late 70ā€™s NY new wave/CBGBā€™s scene in its cool neuroticism, very different from the other bands. Being detached and cynical was an integral part of that scene and sound.

Apples and pears.
