podium at last.
in with bronze and 15 points is @smrk4 with Iron Maiden and Remember Tomorrow
Next to the words “power ballad” in the OED, is this song. Incredible vocals and a face melting guitar solo make this an amazing listen. If there is drama with this song, it’s that Paul Di’Anno is on the mic and not Bruce D. I don’t know what that means, tbh but it might mean something to some of you. For me, I shall return from out of fire
I remember them well. They were hippies turned second generation punks.
The silver and 16 points goes to @6ix and Antony and the Johnsons with For Today I am a Boy
This may have won if not for the first line in wiki’s entry reading, “Antony and the Johnsons is an AMERICAN music group” (emphasis added). The lead is English born though so we’re golden. As is this song. And while there’s not much mystery around what the song is about, what is magical is the power of the message. Because one day I’ll grow up, and I’ll feel the power in me.
Im not crying, you’re crying.
Grunch.
Bugger slept late.
That gives all the gold and all 17 points to @Rexx and Cat Stevens & Alun Davies - Lady d’Arbanville
The original is special, but this version is just beyond. Enjoy
Thank you all for submitting. And hugs to Riv for inviting me to share this walrus with him. I learned a lot.
Yes yes yes!!! I’m claiming overall winner too due to this!
I’m so glad it got first. I love it so much.
Thanks King and thanks Riv for this Walrus!
A 17 person reveal must take a crazy amount of time to get done. Thanks for the time you put in!
Two of my personal fave moments were King referring to one of my fave bands as “wedding band gone wild” and Riv referring to Roy Orbison as “a goofy lookin’ bastid with shades on”.
I’LL ALLOW IT
Yeah, I knew I was playing fast and loose with ‘British band’ but I’m glad you enjoyed it. It’s in my top25 power rankings.
This was indeed a great category, I had a moment of side eye at Cat Stevens, but then I clicked listen, that was great. Also really liked Chrisv and mimosa entries.
I dont think anyone has or probably will tot up the points but this is probably as close as @pyatnitski will get to winning one outright because he likes slightly more adventurous and less mainstream music than most here, and of course I’m biased because I do too, but if he wants to do a walrus then I think he should get the chance now, or if he can only do part than I have plenty of time over the next week to help.
Suggestion - you and Goatnitski run parallel Walruses to split up contestants.
back in the day they called him the father of modern trance. Too bad progressive trance doesn’t really exist anymore, since it got swallowed by the utter shit that constitutes “EDM” nowadays. Anyway, he’s actually a classically trained musician, and did you know he scored the first The Fast and the Furious movie? And Monster (the one with Charlize Theron). I am ecstatic that someone else has discovered him…he’s been around forever and is always pushing the envelope.
GOAT Trance track from GOAT trance album:
like, how the fuck did he make this in fucking 1997 when nobody else was using tech this way.
I feel like I’ve actually heard this before. I have no idea when or where, because the actual name of the artist/track doesn’t ring a bell, but it’s very familiar.
I need some black clothes and maybe some absinthe now.
