Is…is that racist?
Does this count as spoken words? If so, it should be the all the entries.
We went to the Philly Pizza Company and ordered some hot tea
The waitress said “well no, we only have it iced”
So we jumped up on the table and shouted anarchy
Might just be the best lyrics in all of music history. But I’m pretty sure I already did the thing where I link this song.
You’ve got to guess so.
Called it. Johnny Paycheck was mine
I find the song interesting because of the casual violence. Also noteworthy is that despite the arguable racism (Mexican guy with knife), I bet it was considered “progressive” at the time
Aww, thought this was going to go far on lyrical content alone, oh well.
“In order to feel something, you have to be there. You have to be 18. You’re not 18, you are 78.”
That line hits hard.
Am digging your thing of posting a bunch of category examples.
Congrats to those who avoided the nodium
In 7th place, we have
This is essentially the more serious version of the previous entry. I actually like it a bit more though.
Also digging your thing of not revealing my submission yet.
Oh man, I just realized my favourite song ever submitted to one of my categories would fit in this category. Wouldn’t submit it here given it’s already been done, but for posterity:
This track was entered by the goat, not surprisingly.
This is where shit gets hard. There’s just a clusterfuck near the top and then one that stands above them. Basically 6th through 2nd is a bit random.
In 6th place we have
West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band - 1906
It was pretty catchy at first. But then I kinda realized, “The music is gonna change at some point, right?”. I mean it did don’t get me wrong. But it did drone a bit.
Based on all of the “this would have been #1” posts, I’m near certain I didn’t get first place here.
But if 6th through 2nd are all about the same, I’ll just pray to the rand gods.
And in 5th place we have
Arlo Guthrie - Alice’s Restaurant
This has some nostalgic value to me as my father used to play it on long trips to the country. I didn’t quite understand it as a child because the Vietnam War wasn’t a thing I knew about at the time. So I didn’t really appreciate the humor until I got older. If the music was a bit more varied it’d get higher. But then again, it wouldn’t be Alice’s Restaurant if it did. I mean how would people sing that song at the draft board if it had a complex melody?
Johnny Paycheck! Fuck yeah!!!
Nodium was crime against humanity imo
That’s mine.
