Walrus Grab Bag 4 Reveal

I recall that Louis and I were trolled the most. It will be interesting to see the troll attempts against me. I predict some "troll "entries would have done better than people’s actual entries.

“Oh, Pauwl would hate this cheesy 80’s pop song”. Nope, love it!

You weren’t allowed to troll this category, I did think of that at one point and checked (though how and with what escapes me now).

I forgot about that and I am curious, too. I guess someone could just pick a music genre that I don’t particularly care for.

Given my track record in Walrus, it’s very likely that I am going to completely whiff on understanding what someone else hates on some of these. This category is fraught with danger.

The nodium has songs that I’m not sure would actually be loathed.

Paul McCartney - Temporary Secretary

This is trolling Pauwl’s category of electronic.
The first time I listened to this song I had an absolutely dreadful time. I have listened to it many times and now I actually like it. I don’t know what he was thinking when he made this song.
From Wikipedia:
“Temporary Secretary” is a song by Paul McCartney, featured on his 1980 album McCartney II. In 2013, Rolling Stone ranked it the #36 all-time McCartney post-Beatles song, calling it a “cult favorite” and an “oddly catchy electro-pop nugget, about a slightly creepy-sounding guy looking to hire a temp.” In 2014, “Temporary Secretary” was ranked as the 167th greatest song of all time by critics of NME magazine. They described it as “wonky electropop that didn’t sound so much ahead of its time as out of it altogether.”

I just have the feeling that Pauwl might actually like this song, based on how that category went, and that some people would have considered it as a non-ironic entry for the category if they knew the song. It’s not a horrible song in its own right, but I’m not convinced it’s a good troll job.

If I whiffed on this read of @Pauwl, then this category is not going to go well.

This deserves to be in last place. Just not in this category … unless the rest is truly horrible.

It’s kind of annoying, but I don’t think it’s on the nodium in my category. Just outside it though.

eta: 2nd listen, I’m liking it more. This would have likely grown on me.

Regardless of where I end up, I hate everything about this.

Fish Heads by Barnes and Barnes:

Going to forego the obvious troll of rickrolling/Friday’ing Yuv, and submit this to Pauwl.

I think it is highly likely that Pauwl is familiar with this song. And maybe he hates it, but there’s a reason why it’s popular among a certain crowd, so I am not sure that is guaranteed nodium either. I might be downgrading this because rickrolling Yuv would be a podium contender. (Funny thing…something like the Bieber remix of Despacito would have been something I would have considered if I were submitting to this category.) I mean, it’s still likely to annoy him, but it doesn’t feel like a sure thing to me.

I wonder if anyone went with the strategy of submitting a song that would have trolled themselves.

Ok this is mine.

Knowing Rickrolling Yuv would have been a podium contender, and that the song I submitted to SUB would have won Louis category, have been quite lovely twists of the knife this Walrus.

I just really assumed someone else would submit Rebecca Black - Friday or Rickroll Yuv so I didn’t do it.

Has there ever been a duplicate entry in a Walrus?

Never heard it before. Confirmed troll. Chipmunks singing did it.

Ah, well, bad read on my part. It’s a classic novelty song, though.

In my Walrus, there was a repeat song. The cover got near nodium and the original podiumed. They were very different and I didn’t even notice they were the same song.

This is fucking awesome. Probably would have podiumed mine.

Jason Mraz - 93 Million Miles from the Sun

Troll is for Louis’ science category. I don’t think Jason Mraz is his cup of tea.

I get how one might think Louis will hate this song, but it feels more like it would get a meh reaction than garnering active hate bordering on regret for coming up with the category, which is what good trolling would do.
