Walrus 9 Reveal Thread

That’s amazing. I believe that is the definition of “owning it”.

Btw Whtiney Houston - I will always Love You is the clear winner here and would have been my submission.

fun fact: he practiced the whole routine in heels but nixed it later because he was afraid with the water and all he wouldn’t be able to land that last flip.

I prefer the original…but I’m happy that this makes you happy.

Undoubtedly a great song but is it a “perfect pop song”? Can’t really dance to it, too hard to sing along, meh. It may be a perfectly crafted/performed song but if I’m going for GOAT female singer pop I think I’d pick a Mariah song (not sure which one) or I’m Every Woman but that’s not Whitney’s song.

thx for the reveal, OP, ya hard worker!

Thanks and nice work. Glad to be third. #1 and #2 are great picks.

10th place, above Bohemian Rhapsody.

Heart Of Glass?
I Heard It Through The Grapevine?

They’re both great, so it’s tough to judge. Heart of Glass may have just pipped Buzzcocks, and I usually think 'Grapevine is one of the very best Motown singles, so it might have even won.

Am just giving Category 3 a first run through, and one of you has submitted a song I would have considered for pop song as noisy. Will be tricky to judge that one, though I can see what they’re thinking.

I came very close having a Blondie single, but my choice would have been Atomic

It’s always fun to show people the original “Tainted Love,” but it takes nothing away from Soft Cell’s interpretation, which really is an incredible pop song.

Never knew that was a cover

Oh another pop song I considered was Take On Me, surprised no one submitted or mentioned it yet. Really there are a lot of great pop songs!

Sweet Summer Child O’ Mine?

I’m genuinely interested to see what kind of songs people picked that checked off, “not so engaging that it distracts from dinner, but engaging enough that it eventually makes one or two people notice.”

Samezies. It was an interesting balance to look for.

lol

Few updates:

  1. I don’t mind Take On Me, quite like the keyboard riff—but I doubt it would have progressed beyond Paul Simon, if even that far.

  2. I’ll say more about how I see the next category later and ‘engaging’ can cover a lot of stuff, but to me the ‘background’ qualities are more music that doesn’t suffer from lower volumes and which is unlikely to be something someone really dislikes, rather than it being to some extent unengaging. As stated, though, I’m not using category fit as part of the judging.

  3. Finally, all still seems fine for a reveal later today (starting around 4-5pm EST), I am beginning to get a good handle on category 3 and 2 is pretty much locked in.

I would not be shocked to get last in every remaining category so I went hard for the one that I thought I nailed. This category seems like it will be dicey for everyone though.
