Yes. you spotted it.

And I agree about indie miserablism being a low form of miserablism, which is obviously a very high form of art.

Yar to me it is missing this part:

But, at some point, someone will actually hear it and go, “hey, what is that?”

Just personal taste obv.

Kormac - Wash My Hands

Electro-swing is great. It is something a lot of people haven’t heard before, and it’s definitely a great fit for music that can come on in the background and can kinda get peoples attention because it’s different and fun, but it also doesn’t overpower conversation.

That all seems spot on and this is the first song I will probably listen to again. I stared long and hard at the list to see if there was any way to place it higher, but there wasn’t. It’s catchy and well constructed as it builds itself up from basic elements.

I think what went against it is I can’t really imagine listening to more than one song like this at a time, and I actually preferred it loud on headphones rather than more quietly on the stereo. Overall it was fun to listen to and certainly something I wouldn’t have ever heard if not for Walrus. I wish I could have given it more love.

I’ll be honest I’m not sure I like Nick Drake either even though I want to; I thought it was the kind of thing that fit the description and that you’d go for. I really appreciate the guitar but just not sure when I would really want to listen to something like this. My wife thought his voice was sexy, FWIW

Keep an eye on her with with those Brits abroad imo.

Ha! I cut that from the quote as I didn’t quite know what to make of it.

The Beta Band - Dry The Rain

This is a song I’ve known for [checks notes] [checks again] [crys] 23 years and listened to a lot. I was obsessed with The Beta Band around the time this and their next EP came out and this track is one of their best, the way it builds throughout is fantastic and it’s a ridiculously good rhythm once it all locks into place.

Its trouble was that my key metric has been how pleased am I when the random power of shuffle starts each track, and the familiarity hurt it there as most of what comes next is new to me. I admit that if I play all of the songs from here on in lots over the next few years, it wouldn’t amaze me for this to end up second or third favourite, but as of now this is where it landed.

i’m not sure what it means either but I completely agree

Well at least you didn’t call them indie sad boys.

I mean, they were a bit. But they also played milk bottles and did 15 minute songs of random noise, so they have a place in my heart.

Sink Ya Teeth - If You See Me

Literally happened to me last week

Good work, whoever you are!

This song definitely fits the category for me as well. Sleek, monotonous beats to interest idiots like myself, but a proper pop feel as well. Also exactly the sort of song that could grab the interest if playing quietly, but which benefits from then being cranked high (to show off) with all those lovely, old skool drum machine sounds.

Have to add that I was unsure about the vocals, but the music was strong enough so that even if I end up deciding I don’t like them it justifies the placing. In fact I stuck this one on my playlist, no higher praise.
