In 7th place and 5 points - Leavv - One Day We Will (2017)
Pretty good. 90th percentile or so for this genre of anime DVD Menu music. It’s certainly calm. I could see this working well for a long walk home at the end of the night. An excellent drum sample (?) holds the piece together. This is another band with no Wikipedia page. I’m not sure if that means they are super indie or that no one cares about them. I’ll check out some more when I need some background music. This would be good reading music. Thanks.
Chill-hop isn’t a moneymaker of a genre. Normally people make this stuff barebones in their garage as side projects. Leavv is probably one of the most well-known artists in chillhop but that isn’t saying much in the mainstream.
Anyway, you’re a shit judge. lol @ judging music based on the existence of a Wikipedia page and chillhop being DVD menu music.
You dismissed an entire genre of music as DVD menu music.
Also, the whole theme of a Walrus reveal is to pretty much have some guy tell us we have shit taste in music and for the participants to tell him to go fuck himself isn’t it?
In 6th place with 6 points - R.E.M. - Everybody Hurts
First impression: I was a bit surprised to see this one. It’s a great song, of course, but not at all what I would consider calming. A quick scan of the youtube comments (the only site where reading comments is OK) shows a split between people who find this song a comfort in difficult times and those who listen to it when they need a good cry.
Everybody hurts… so hold on.
I guess I’m closer to the second camp. So, a good, familiar song that’s a bit of a category miss. Loses a few points for being a massive hit. Very familiar.
Later: I came around on this one. I had a different mood in mind for this category but wallowing in tandem has its place and this track does it well.
