Welp
OK seeing Pauwlās pick I think I have a chance.
While I was writing that, I learned thereās a new Candyman coming out in 2020 with Tony Todd back. Jordan Peele is involved! Yes, please!
I left the playlist numbering next to the titles. This is just the order that they were sent to me and might help explain some of my drunken comments if you bother to follow them. Itās mostly just me swearing like in a rage play-through for a video game. Donāt take it serious.
All the talk seems to be about film scores and I fear Iāve fucked up again.

" Since you said you love film scores I checked with my favourites. Unfortunately I think the risk that somebody might pick Terminator or Gladiator themes was too big. I was really battling with myself if I should go classic. Funnily I already had written Independence Day my guilty pleasure film that I watch at least once a year. But decided to go yolo on this category and took a piece that everyone should be able to identify and name the composer. Only in recent years I got to enjoy classic especially pieces that are up-tempo ."

Oh my fucking god. Are you serious? Who asked about classical music and I couldnāt give hints because others already submitted? habsfan. Fuck me. Sheās gonna call me a fuckin tabernac or something. Just look up fancy music terms and say youāre not into that. Too much use of counterpoint. Did I add the last few to the playlist? Whatever, donāt show them this shit

Iām kinda the opposite with respect to up-tempo classics. They sound ok. I donāt dislike them. This just feels like the song they would use in a teeny bopper movie when Clueless is visiting her new University for the first time. Itās a really well known song, so I can mark it down for familiarity. It is of course a timeless classic and Iām a blasphemer.
Phew
Yeah.

I would never listen to this, but it is a massive tune. Not sure how Iād have dealt with it in a Walrus.
I had trouble ranking Pauwlās own instrumental submission in my walrus, a Shostakovich composition.
A lot of those classical pieces should really be either first or last but I bottled it and gave it a mid table berth. #sklanskywalrus
Yeah. I think this is the type of piece you study in music school when youāre learning about orchestral arranging or something like that. I actually like it, but more because Iām constantly listening for how each instrument fits with the rest, thus contributing to the whole sound.
Unfortunately, that has the ālearned astronomerā effect for me, in that I never actually can sit back and just enjoy a piece like this.

- Yasunori Mitsuda - Yearnings of the Wind (from Chrono Trigger)
" I donāt know or listen to a lot of instrumental music but I have played a lot of video games with great music in them. Of every game Iāve played, I think this song is the most perfect and iconic for itās moment in the game, and I can almost feel myself playing it for the first time whenever I listen. Maybe you had to be there? I shared a link for an orchestral remix that is true to the original but is able to flesh out the song and make it sound fuller than the 16-bit cartridge version."

Ok, video game music. A little weird. What fuckin game is this from? I never played it. Zelda? I played all the Zeldas. ok, figure it out tomorrow. Move on.

Ok, yes the video game is in the song title. Chrono Trigger. It does sound like something from a Zelda game. This is a pleasant enough song, I just liked the rest better. Not a bad entry.
This is cool. That damn woodblock or whatever it is might drive me mad on multiple listens though.
Ah nuts. Oh well, i was overmatched in this category so tried to think outside the box.
My second choice was something from a FF game, so donāt feel too bad. There is some incredible video game music out there. Much like the medium in general, it gets short shrift on the cultural scale. Lots of overlooked gems because theyāre from games and not taken seriously.
Enjoyed that, definitely hit the āepicā button.

Hereās the replacement I found that worked.
" This is a song that I remember hearing on the radio every now and then during my childhood. It always gave me the chills during the guitar lead part, and then I kinda forgot about it. During college, I would hear it very rarely and could never figure out who did it. And itās one of those songs thatās impossible to describe to someone because itās just music with no lyrics. Anyway, once smartphones came around and it came on the radio I Shazamād it and lo and behold, itās ELO ."

Oh Fuck You! āThe uploader has not made this video available in your countryā Fuckin Fascists. Fuck you. Now I gotta be a prick and send a PM to KONY to provide a different video. Whatever, fuck you, laws. K, Iām gonna search it on youtube. Posted by ELO, must be legit. Holy fuck, this is scary. OOOOOOOOHGHHHH. Right up my fuckin alley. K, finish it tomorrow. New beer started.

This starts out amazing. So creepy. Weird noises. Horror film sounding. I canāt make out any words. Sounds like David Lynch jibberish. Hallelujah doesnāt count. Itās just choir sounds in the background. No Flag. This is going to move down anyway becauseā¦ Falls off for me in the 2nd half. Lame guitar stuff. Terrible rhythm guitar tone. What are you doing? Stop it! This was on its way to the podium before the 2nd half. They had the keys to the Lamborghini and threw them in the gutter. K, this has to move down.
Narrator: It did.
I have a weakness for prog so I was enjoying almost all of it (last 50 seconds or so got a bit dull), but I know what you mean. Never knew ELO did this sort of thing, but I donāt really know ELO.
What a roller coaster.
