I had a similar experience except it was High School for me. Diablo 2’s graphics were absolutely stunning for the time, and the gameplay has been the core of the entire genre ever since.
Holds up well, imo.
I’ve been into gaming since I got a Nintendo at like 6 years old and somehow a lot of those computer games passed me by, probably due to lack of Internet at the time. I remember owning consoles and wanting specific games but I’d mostly just play random PC games that I’d find in the store that looked good, occasionally stumbling into major releases like Warcraft II. I still have a “white whale” of a game that I played at a friend’s house, didn’t get the name, and then tried to find it from looking at pictures on the backs of boxes.
This is a long way of me saying that the first time I saw Diablo II was when my grad school buddy was playing it on his laptop when we were in China in 2005 or so. I was like “Um what is this? I need to get it immediately when we get back.” I think I bought it and ended up doing playthroughs with two characters before playing anything else again. PoE is a pretty good substitute although it seems to have more complexity to it whereas Diablo II is just a pure, unadulterated smashing loot grind. D3 was decent imo but didn’t quite reach the heights of 2.
Playing CK3 in the Dark Ages, managed to form the kingdoms of Scotland, Ireland, and Wales to create the greatest rubgy powerhouse in all of history. Then I died and it all crumbled into separate kingdoms of sparring in-laws. The Dark Ages are a real rollercoaster ride.
Yeah, succession can be a big pain. There are ways to deal with it, but most seem too gamey to me, so recently I’ve just been rolling with it. It’s fun to see what the other members of my dynasty can do on their own.
Hades is amazing, though bow is the only weapon I don’t suck with.
Grim dawn is more of a sequel to diablo 2 than Diablo 3 was
A Study in Variance: Fall Guys Version
Fall Guys was getting pretty stale when I was playing alone, but I got my friend (former 2+2er) hooked and we’ve been competing against each other since then. He even started a spreadsheet to track results like # of final rounds, crowns won, etc.
About a week ago, he somehow won 3 crowns out of 4 games. However, since then he’s gone 80 games without a win. Swongs are one thing.
We’re both pretty even in skill level, which makes it fun to battle. He had a 5-2 lead in crowns after his ridic 3 in 4 stretch, but I’ve since tied it 5-5.
Re: Fall Guys, Season 2 is on the way in mid-October I believe, and it looks like they’ve really expanded the levels so they’re not so basic anymore. Looks like a ton of fun and I’m pretty amped. We might see a 2nd Fall Guys boom among streamers when it hits.
Still down for a UP Fall Guys group on PC. It’s maxed out at 4 in a party so we’d only need 3 more. Maybe I’m the only one who’s even playing it.
I was looking at it but all the reviews said tons of problems with cheaters and also stale maps, is the cheating problem gone?
UFC 4 online play is so much better than UFC 3 and i cant really figure out why - it just is. I think it’s the revamped submission system. I’m having a blast. Figured out I’m not much of a kickboxer or boxer and I’m really good at submission wins. Pulling off a submission online feels really good (especially flying subs) but I cant tell if I’m just doing it against scrubs. It feels amazing when you’ve just been tanking damage like crazy to your dome and have suffered a million knockdowns, but have maintained a stamina advantage and go for the comeback submission. I’m maining khabib and dos anjos but I feel like dos anjos’s fighting style suits me a lot better, he has great kicks and a better standup game than khabib. I never pegged myself as much of a jiu jitsu guy in these games but I’m frickin loving it. I feel so unstoppable in the clinch and on the ground and most players seem to really suck at both of these.
Gonna be playing this game a lot, I can tell.
This was pretty great, I also haven’t been into fighting games since Street Fighter 2. The sequel is good, too.
Yah, they finally solved the hacking problem about 10 days ago.
Regarding the maps, they added some changes to randomize them, so each time they play slightly different. I got bored after about 25 hours playing by myself, but since I started playing against my friend, we’ve put in about 20 hours in 2 weeks and it’s been super fun. Season 2 should help a ton with map variety.
So I finally bought a switch lite. $200 cool with it. But still amazed at how bad/lazy companies are at rereleases. I looked at 3d mario all stars. So somewhat smoother graphics whatever…
Mario 64 DS included some extra stars with some new characters.
Would snap have paid $60 for 3d mario all stars if they included that. Even though that is small at least it is something newish. But yeah…I own Mario 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy…
Man, I bought the 3D all stars game last week thinking it would be fun for the wife and I to play through together. I couldn’t finish more than a few levels - the camera control in those games is so so so bad. I was ready to puke after 15 minutes from motion sickness.
It’s a shame because I’d absolutely sink 20 hours into Mario 64 if they just imported modern day camera controls. I understand that would likely require some work to implement but I’m paying you 60 dollars for a 20 year old game, so maybe having to put an bit of work into it isn’t the worst thing in the world.
I’m still playing CK2.
I’ll never be going to hear the end of that, will I?
Louis lied, people died!
Diablo 2 most fun I’ve had in a game since like Warhammer (MMO PVP game). Act 1 on hardcore complete. Hades is fun af too but you can die in that. Hardcore Diablo makes shit exciting.
I played a ton of D2, but never HC. I basically only played HC in POE and you are making me want to download D2 again.
I’m trippin out on how fun it is for a 20 year old game with 480x240 or whatever graphics. Most people had dial up then still. You wouldn’t ever try hardcore on dialup.
