RDR2 Online is kind of fun. I play it sometimes.

I played through it a couple times but never got into the online mode. Has it improved? When I tried it out I thought it was kind of stupid.

Theyā€™ve added a toooooon of features, including professions which are kind of cool. You can be (i am having trouble remembering) a trader, a trapper, a surveyor type of class which goes after collectables, and the most fun one is moonshiner which lets you have your own moonshining cabin you can outfit with a speakeasy.

When online first was released it was basically half a product. Now thereā€™s just a shitload more to do and they implemented some anti-griefing measures as well. Rockstar is really, really good at the open world mmo in this style of game by now so I have no doubt itā€™ll continue to get better and better.

Sometimes I just sit and play the online pot limit poker for hours but the stakes and hands/hour are too low to really be worth spending time doing it.

I have to admit though, griefing can be kind of fun.

actually only took a few mins to download it but then you open the game and yea another 92GB or so.

I started the download last night before I went to bed. I was pretty bummed when I got up that it was just the installer.
The real download is 92 GB which turns into 150 GB on your HD after unpacking and installation.

The game also streams a lot of data in flight.

Just got up from a nap and the download is stuck at 56 GB with an error message: ā€žDebug: something went wrong with the download, see 499.ā€œ :frowning:

Serious question, wtf was the point of the ā€œpreinstallā€ for flight sim on game pass? I was looking forward to playing when I get done work later this afternoon, learned 10 minutes ago that I had another 90 gb to download. Hopefully itā€™ll be done by this evening, I guess.

As someone who hasnā€™t played one since probably 1998, any thoughts on best non-dedicated control schemes? Keyboard, game pad, some combination of both? If itā€™s cool I may eventually buy a cheap throttle/joystick combo but I donā€™t want to commit to that just yet.

The game will be released for Xbox eventually and when looking for a flight stick one article mentioned ā€œreplacing your game padā€. I have no first hand experience but based on that I assume that keyboard/game pad combo should be fine.

I restarted the installer and it said I needed a 36 GB update which is the difference between the 92 GB install and what I had previously downloaded. Fine. Problem is now I am at 36.4 GB out of 36.1 GB and itā€™s still going. Progress bar says 65%. Motherfucker!

Seems like a good time to go for that $1/m trial of game pass, CK3 will be on there in a couple weeks as well.

Game Pass is dropping some huge releases in the next two weeks. IN addition to Flight Simulator which dropped yesterday, there is also Spiritfarer (A game my wife is loving right now, think Stardew Valley meets Graveyard Keeper meets Oxenfree/Afterparty) which dropped yesterday, Wasteland 3, which could be a GOTY contender if it lives up to even a little of its hype, the new Battletoads release on Thursday, Donā€™t Starve, and Tell Me Why, the newest Dontnod release.

I did get some flying in yesterday btw. The game is still kind of buggy, it crashed on me 3-4 times, but it is very cool. My neighborhood is nearly photorealistic except for the blocky textures on trees, like they even got the weird gold domes on the Ukrainian church right.

Itā€™s very CPU intensive, and the frame rate drops pretty frequently for me, but luckily itā€™s not super noticeable usually. I imagine there will be performance enhancements In future updates. The biggest gripe I have is the load times. Itā€™s probably a solid 90 seconds or longer for a flight to load up.

In any case, highly recommend and looking forward to seeing it develop further.

First time playing yesterday. Skipped all the tutorials. Created a flight from cincy to Detroit.

Was able to take off. But we crashed

Fun so far.

I took the first training flight and had only 15 minutes to spare before I had to leave. So I tried flying on my own from a small ā€œairportā€ (grass airstrip is more accurate) close to where I live. I crashed the plan after maybe 90 seconds. Well, back to the training flights which I have finished now after some hiccups and even two more crashes.
My landings are far from smooth and hitting the runway isnā€™t that easy if you donā€™t come in at the right angle which is easier said than done.
I was quite proud of myself though when I completed a flight path only using landmarks and instruments.

I noticed some popups but overall the graphics look really good auto-set to high which is one step below ultra. I have an i5 with a GTX1060 and was able to run it in 4k so itā€™s definitely playable with out high-end hardware. Frame rate could be better so I will probably have to reduce some details.

I was now able to successfully start from the local air strip. I must say I am a bit disappointed because I can barely recognize the area. The houses look nothing like we have here and appear in unexpected places. The tiny brook you can almost jump over is turned into a river the size of a three-lane highway. There are way too many trees. Itā€™s probably not meant to be looked at at low altitude and I was unable to navigate by sight. I was hoping to find some setting that displays town names and while fiddling with the cache settings the game crashed.
