I speedran Ninja Gaiden for a while, just for fun. Never got to the god-tier times, but did manage to do it in under 14 min with no deaths. That game looks really cool when played well.

Here’s the world record, and you can see what I mean.

Yeah I don’t remember anything like that happening although it’s been a while since I’ve played ITB.

I can see why people might like speedrunning games but it sounds incredibly stressful to me.

Because of a glitch during the stream not everybody was able to login. You can claim the game by going to https://register.ubisoft.com/ubisoft-forward-reward/en-US and logging in with your UPlay account. Ends on the 16th.

I tend toward this too, though not because of twitch or streaming…because I’m a competitive asshole who is most competitive with herself, lol.

So to temper that I stick to games with stories that I need to slow down to absorb. This forces me to play it once for story. THEN I go balls to the wall hard core 1-save only (like I posted about above with DOS2), etc. Sometimes I search out the generally accepted worst/hardest build to play then specifically choose that, too.

I used to really enjoy these types of games waaaaaay back when they were WWII commandos. I should give one of these a shot sometime.

I’m trying to learn how to play a Paradox game, plus Ghost of Tsushima is coming out; I got no time for anything else.

God I couldn’t imagine beating Ninja Gaiden back in the day. Dying on the final boss put you back to 6-1 and oof. Beating the final boss wasn’t too bad when I was able to play it with save states so I could practice the final boss.

The casual way to beat it on an NES is like this: get the spin slash subweapon in 6-3, use it to one shot the first form. Then the game takes it away for the second form. Die to the second form (well you can try to beat it, but without good practice, you’ll certainly die). Go back through world 6, getting the spin slash again in 6-3. Now one shot the second form. You can maybe beat the third form in casual play, but even if not, you can just die and get the spin slash again.

I haven’t played a computer game in a year, but based on your description, it’s either the greatest or the second greatest game of all time.

I downloaded this last night. Have you played it? Any good?

I’ve been spending most of my downtime playing and studying chess (badly) for the last month or so, and trying to progress through DOS2, but I’ll probably hop into this sometime soon.

Haven’t played it. Too much backlog.

Anyone play Path of Exile?

I played for a month or two a while back. It’s a very good diablo clone with insane depth to skill trees and leveling.

Kirby (on the other forum) is a POE expert. He still streams it.

I think the 2nd stage has falling rocks that kill you (or enemies) immediately. Also the floor might open up?

finally got my free copy of Watch Dogs 2. It is literally the hello fellow kids of video games. Yiiiiiikes.

Finally got second boss cell in Dead Cells. I was consistently getting to the Hand but not coming close to beating him until I realized i had to change up my strategy.

Also finally caved and bought Lonely Mountain Downhill, think i mentioned it upthread. It’s pretty cool! At first I wasn’t sure I’d be able to get the control scheme but after a few runs I started to figure it out. For a refresher it’s a low polygon mountain biking “simulator” where you have to pilot your way down various trails without crashing. Definitely seems like an “easy to learn, hard to master” type game, where you can find your way through a trail pretty easily but getting better times with fewer crashes is challenging. It’s not really like anything else I’ve played in a while but it has the DNA of precision platformers (Super Meat Boy) and Ski Free with a pinch of Dark Souls (mostly ironically but it does use the camera and environment to hide paths well). I’d recommend it but I did have a coworker (who enjoys mountain biking irl) tel me it made her nauseous.

second boss cell is where shit gets real fucking real

haven’t come close to beating second boss cell yet

The average player should probably just do forge runs, promenade ramparts black bridge, break down doors after collector, dump them all into the forge. At least until you max out the ++ one. Then don’t forget to upgrade your main hand from ++ to S every time you can.

Hand of the king is unique in that he’s so big and the are you’re in is so small the normal boss strategies won’t work. Just walk up next to him and wait. When you see him do something, hit parry or roll. It’ll always be one of: uppercut and ground smash, triple slash, charge, grenades, all of which you’ll avoid. Hit him a couple times after that and repeat.

I basically did the opposite of this and played keep away while wearing him down with status effects.
