Agree with goofy, PS5 is pretty inessential at this point. Games looks better on it but for the most part it’s not a huge difference (only one I would cite is Nier: Automata, which runs at 60 fps on PS5 and was smoother to the point that I enjoyed it significantly more than on the PS4) and none of the exclusives are console sellers. I do think that the DualSense controller is a massive improvement over the previous iterations but not enough of a reason to buy a console, just a perk (and most games don’t use it to nearly it’s full capacity - the best one is probably still Astro’s Playroom, the free tech demo game that comes preloaded on the PS5).
I’ve had several people tell me it’s their favorite game of all time. I suspect it’s not all that playable today but it is available on Steam and the Switch. As someone who has never played the original game, I enjoyed the FFVII remake although I’d struggle to tell you why since I’m not a huge JRPG fan.
Im the same. I really liked the combat system though. Pretty good blending of live action and turn based combat. Story wasnt bad, and aside from the weird gasps that american voice actors have to put into Japanese dubbed characters, I enjoyed the voice acting. Especially Aerith and Barrett
It’s excellent. I replayed last year and thought it held up quite well. The painted backgrounds look great and the soundtrack is incredible. Honestly the soundtrack alone is reason enough to play.
The story is engaging and features one of the all time great twists. For combat, it’s standard turn based JRPG fare with random encounters. It’s definitely old school in that regard, but if you’re used to it from other games (ex: any of the older Pokémon games) it won’t bother you. If you’re interested in this genre at all, FFVII’s a must play.
What are you using to monitor? I have the game and all of the hardware literally sitting right here, but don’t think I have a single thing I could plug it into. There’s some magic adapter that does the scanning / translation correctly for HDMI or something?
when my laptop gets unplugged my games drop to 30fps and i almost threw a tantrum on stream about it, to me it’s unplayable. i really dont know how anyone can play on that and be like “this is fine.” it feels like slow motion
at my alma mater, old box tv’s used to get bought up around the area like crazy during any given school year. the reason was that the campus had somehow become a mecca for unsanctioned, massive smash64 and melee tournaments, so you’d typically see these long lines of young kids walking to the gaming area all carrying these ancient tv’s. weirdest thing I’ve probably ever seen, but those tournaments were quite fun. I got past the first round in a tourney with ryu whatever version was the last smash bros. looking back the field was soft and i wished i’d used a more reliable main that wasn’t so technically difficult
That’s correct. I also know that these dudes geek out over the upscaling and buy some $150 HDMI adapter that does “perfect” translation or w/e but can’t remember the exact details.
all you eu4 dorks got me to finally play ck3, good lord this game always feels like it has vast sub systems that I haven’t clicked through the right menu to discover yet.
It’s a complicated-ass game but I find that I had quite a bit of fun playing even when I didn’t understand any of the core game mechanics. lol I probably still don’t understand some important concepts. Just try to become the king of Noob Island (Ireland) first and that’ll teach you most of the basics.
I wanted to start over in Ireland because I felt the training wheels were too easy, like I swear the first king has some modifier against having male children, he’s given me seven girls
I had to look at this to jog my memory. It’s not only an issue of having the right cable sockets on your TV. There’s an issue with most HDTVs not being able to natively upscale this stuff properly. Also, you generally don’t want to use the S-video / RCA set (yellow/white/red) because the quality is awful. It’s explained and illustrated perfectly here:
It was ok. I picked it because I liked pokemon as a kid, but the nostalgia glasses came off. The bosses in every zone were nearly identical roll dodge until the appropriate time then hit the boss types of moves. There wasn’t a easy way to level up pokemon outside of the five in the lineup so I stuck with my five through a lot of the game. I did not care about the story or anyone in the story. It’s a game for kids so I wasn’t expecting much but usually there’s something that an adult can appreciate.
The late 1800s early 1900s Japanese look was beautiful though.
I never played the original and really enjoyed it. I played 13(?) Or something on 360 and got fucked by it being multi disk and going into the 3rd disk being underleveled for a boss that occurs right away so didn’t finish it. Was way less fun than ff7 remake as well.
