He also made the mobile game One More Jump. Addicting, difficult, frustrating, and really well done.
Ill check it out. I dont think I knew that
Not a video game question, but my brother in law invited me to play in a D&D game with our nephews and I said Iād consider it. Iāve played every nerdy video game from MUDs to WoW and all that, but never this. Is there a resource out there that anyone might suggest for some preparation? Iāve seen a bunch of episodes of Critical Role if that helps, lol.
Assuming you have a competent dungeon master, you donāt need to prep (as long as people donāt care if you have a suboptimal build for your character). The dungeon master should walk you through most of the rules and let you know your options so you wonāt look like a total idiot.
Its flawed but I liked it a lot. Good $30 buy. Turn off online play or prepare to be griefed a lot.
Free on Epic:
Rise of the Tomb Raider
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Tomb Raider
I remember playing one of these and it was pretty great, although there didnāt seem to be any actual tomb raiding in the game. I think theyāre trying to make the franchise more realistic, which means no more enormous tombs with ridiculous Indy Jones mechanical traps.
I replayed them during the pandemic. They had hidden tombs that were separate from the main story, so you had to search them out and find them in the environments. The games kinda became like Drakeās and lost alot of the puzzles and fun and replaced it with machine gun battles. Some ok stealth too though.
Feel like this is one of the most lauded games in history but maybe we run in different circles. I played it about a year ago and it was so good that it really ruined a lot of other games for me. Currently playing TLOU2 and enjoying it a bit more than the first game because itās more mechanically satisfying, even though the first half of the story is pretty bad.
I accidentally bought this monthās Humble Monthly and I donāt want any of the games in it - a couple have already been claimed by friends but if anyone sees one or two they want let me know. I canāt get to the website at work but I can update later if I remember.
Played the first two of these and enjoyed them quite a bit, very nice for freebies. A lot more combat focused than the earlier games though.
Yea they are definitely more combat focused, I still enjoy the tombs the most out of the game, I played the first two and Iāll be playing this one soon I guess now
Bored so going to āreviewā my 1st year of full price PS5 games
Spiderman Tried so hard to be everything and wound up just being mediocre at it all. Not a great arkham style brawler, not a great stealth game, uncanny valley Tom Holland, the works. Its not bad, and the only one with 60fps raytracing, but just playing it at all is a grind really, first game I played and then took a year long break before I finally beat it a couple nights ago. MM version was a lot better so maybe they learned things IDK Iāll probably still grab the sequel. 3.5/5.
Demonās Souls I played the original when it was released for PS3 and yeah thereās a reason why āsoulslikeā starts with dark souls. Really great graphics and use of the PS5 but it still very unbalanced and kind of all over the place. Still a buy though unless you hate these types of games. 3.5/5.
Ghost of Tsushima Probably my favorite. Its pretty samesy and thereās really only 2 enemy types and is a bit too bogged down by its āhistoricalnessā but everything else is just sublime, fantastic combat, good enough stealth, probably best looking PS4 game ever too. Only one I platinumed. 4.5/5.
Returnal Iām a fan of roguelikes so donāt have a problem with its style but honestly thereās almost no persistent rewards/unlockables so all deaths are just āwelp I learned not to do that againā type stuff. By far the most unique and beautiful graphics of the bunch though and combat/gunplay are very very good. Marred by an awful ending and some bad/unavoidable damage (drones). 4/5.
Deathloop Never played dishonored series but the overall gameplay reminded me a lot of bioshock which is a complement. Interesting setting and ideas that you wonāt see in other games. A bit too short to really justify a $60 price and the ugliest game on this list (still looks fine of course). Once again marred by a āyou (the players) get nothing because fuck youā style ending. 4/5.
Hitman Never played this series either so was pleasantly surprised, bought this after getting 2 for free from PS+ then bought the rest. What a well done, honed, thought out game series, probably the most creative of all of these and while it can be somewhat tedious and probably āoverpricedā for what you get unless youāre a completionist it was still a ton of fun and I was always looking forward to the next map. 4/5.
Guardians of the Galaxy I have no, none at all idea why this game continues to get good reviews and praise. Its a hallway walker in the terrible Final Fantasy 13 style, thereās basically no āpuzzlesā, the combat is literally āhold down L1 and cycle through the other teammates cooldowns and donāt get yourself killedā over and over, story is nothing special. I had to hateplay it to finish it and wish I didnāt and FFS you donāt even bang Gamora. 2/5.
Anyone play Teamfight Tactics at all?
Whatās the list for games I should be looking at for Oculus Quest 2?
We have 2 and Iām looking for games that might interest me (48 yr old), and also games that will interest/I can play with my daughter (9).
Currently, we have beat saber and cook-out. Cook out is a ton of fun. I also have some golf game and some fishing game.
Almost hit the floor the other day when I was getting tired and tried to lean against a virtual counter in cook out. WHoops!
A lot of players like rogue-likes without permanent progression. I like both ways of doing it. I find things like Hades a bit too much progression honestly (e.g. the mirror). Risk of Rain 2 is a fantastic game without any permanent progression of the sort that makes you stronger.
Pokerstars VR is oddly compelling. Reminds me of my old bar poker days.
If ypu like puzzlers, I really enjoy both The Room games and both I Expect You to Die games
Iām playing the mummy themed room game now. Really well done.
Deathās Door super great for a $20 indie hack and slasher that has been done a million times before but this is a lot of fun. Youāre a crow! With a sword!
I have seen this title on a best of 2021 list.
It was just rereleased to game pass as well.
Yeah the beginning and mid game of Deathloop are great it just kind of falters towards the end when youāre like āOK go to this menu option that tells me what to do and hit wait a bunch of timesā type stuff. Not to say it would be better without it though.
Guess Iāll have to try outer wilds again, spent like an hour on it and was irritated by the controls too much and moved on.
