All for sure
Also would be interested in setting up eu4 mp, still one of the best mp experiences I’ve ever had. Out of game diplomacy made it epic

as i understand it, every dlc comes with a free update that tweaks the maps and the overall game, and the dlcs themselves just add more content like historic events and country-specific challenges/popups. so the game should play very much the same
Off the top of my head, Cossacks massively changes war/diplomacy (need favors or promise Land for allies to join offensive war), and Art of War massively changes war. Mandate of Heaven introduces Ages and Common Sense development.
All of them. What kind of game do you want to play? Which country to play is a semi massive choice.
Haven’t thought about it. The one game I completed was with Portugal. Before then I had two quickly abandoned attempts with Sweden and Denmark.
England, Castile, France, ottomans, the papal state, Muscovy, are all fun and relatively easy
I don’t particularly recommend the papal state… if you want to play an italian game Milan is a better choice IMO. The goal is to form Italy. Ignore all the idea tier lists if you go this route and take innovative and quality ideas for the ridiculous idea that gives +25% infantry quality. One of Italy’s ideas gives +15% infantry combat ideas and one of the quality ideas gives +10%. The result is stacks of mercenaries that are comparable with swedish/prussian space marines.
Italy is an absurdly strong nation lol. I need to motivate myself to return to my Milan->Italy->Rome save and actually bother to finish up getting Rome for the achievements. I got bored once I’d basically won the game like I always do lol.
Not a particularly beginner friendly place Italy. I actually recommend staying away from continental Europe as a beginner. Too easy to ruin your save by triggering a coalition.
Everyone talks about how Ottomans and France are a faceroll but I’ve played all the strongest countries and England > Great Britian was just super easy mode. Your navy is the best in the game, you’re home trade node is best in game and you’re on an island.
I had big success in italy starting as Savoy. Get France to back you up until you hold the north, and you’re on your way
How did you like this one?
I did Naples > Italy and it went pretty well, once you wiggle out of the PU with Aragon it’s smooth sailing, plus you’re in reach of N Africa so you have more expansion options early that don’t involve attacking into the HRE
Key for Milan is getting Austria as an ally. The ambrosian republic government option you get early is why they are such a strong choice.
With Austrian friends you pretty much get an all you can eat buffet in northern Italy before 1600… and Venice and savoy are tasty indeed.
I just saw on Reddit that Conquest of Paradise is not part of that bundle so you’ll still have to grab that one at retail. I guess it’s okay if you’re planning to play a lot in the New World?? I’ve never played without it so idk if I’m the best to answer that question
That sucks. What mechanics did Conquest of Paradise have? Just the randomized new world? If so it’s an easy skip.
Probably the most fun I’ve ever had was trying (repeatedly) to get the Aztec achievement where you invade Europe.
Random New World, the ability to tag switch to one of your colonial nations, and “an expansive addition of new mechanics for tribal nations in North America including migration, buildings, native ideas, reforming the government, a new mechanic for casus belli and federations.” Whatever all that means.
Yeah so basically unless you actually want to play the Aztec superpower into Europe game you can skip it
I really want to learn EU4 but it is so overwhelming and kind of clunky. It’s really hard to tell where I’m even making mistakes.
For instance start as portugal and I’m immediately hemmorhaging money and I can’t figure out how to make more. England’s my ally, and gets in a war with france who immediately overwhelms my country before I’m even 5 years into the game.
Where’s a good resource to learn how to play this? I desperately want to.
just play easier countries first. portugal is kinda difficult
I haven’t played this, but I’ve played Crusader Kings 2 which is same publisher and looks similar in terms of difficulty. I had to watch a few 30+ minute YouTubes of people playing to get a grasp on it.
