Unstuck Summer Weight Loss Challenge (Potatoes Not Included)

Seems like you have a valid lawsuit.

Yikes! Riding along a few months ago, I see a garbage truck approaching an intersection at the same time as me. It’s on a steep downhill, and stop signs not having magical powers, I realize he’s not slowing down. My life doesn’t flash before my eyes, just garbage truck. They did yell “sorry!” but city workers are a constant hazard.

A few weeks later

Still down 4 pounds

This is difficult to not eat blizzards.

I hope you heal up ok. That looks really painful!

I stopped at a local supplement store that I use to frequent a lot to get protein powder. Now that I am starting to up my workouts I thought it would be a good idea to purchase some post workout protein.

They have a $10,000 machine (what the guy told me it cost) that measures your body fat composition.

I am at 27.8% body fat. I would of guess 30% when I started this challenge.

They said I could come back every 2-4 weeks to measure it again and it will track your progress. They even print up a sheet with all your info.

Week 5.

Feeling good about my progress this week. I’m settled in for the long haul now and didn’t really have any problems keeping to the good eating habits developed over the last few weeks. Went out for a meal Sunday but not classing it is a failure, I have no intention of giving up meals out and alcohol completely, I just need to have a good regime that allows it without causing long term weight problems.

Didn’t do as much exercise as I wanted to, had another sea swim before the hot weather disappeared, but had a bit of a crisis week at work so ended up missing my morning runs due to combination of early starts, late finishes and general knackerdness. Also WFH officially over for my company, which is a pain as I have a 40 min or 70 minute commute each way depending which site I am at. I can still work from home a couple of times a week, but the situation did not allow it last week

Exercise 3 days
Sardines 4 days
Alcohol 2 and half pints. First half I have ordered in about 25 years

Weight fluctuated by 5 lbs over the week but came in at 1lb loss this morning so happy to bank that

Argh. Did your company not learn that presence at the office is not required every day, and that more work gets done and people are happier when they don’t have to commute like this?

I seem to be stablizing – with 2063 calories/day this week, I gained 1 lb. We bought a new blender, which I will be using for protein shakes to have as snacks. I don’t really have any protein-packed snack ideas other than protein bars, which seem kind of lame.

Date Weight 5-week avg
7/2/2020 157.6 158.4
7/30/2020 152.4 154.5
8/6/2020 151.2 153.2
8/13/2020 149.6 152.0

Yes it’s as frustrating as fuck. I actually had the smaller office (which is further away) working fully remotely for 4 months, and it worked perfectly. Not really suitable for the more local office, as it has a warehouse attached (I’m in Logistics)so that stayed fully operational for the duration.
To be fair I get quite a lot of flexibility for myself as long as I have both offices running well - and once I’ve got everything set I should be able to get more of a regular schedule

Protein bars are lame but I still have one most days. The Costco ones have quite a bit of fiber too, so I get those. They sell a collagen protein powder I put in my coffee or cereal/oatmeal/Kodiak cakes. Not much taste, just makes stuff creamier. Greek yogurt is good. Eggs too. Beans. Cottage cheese ok. Sardines aren’t bad! (I guess my meals have all turned into snacks.)

Haven’t weighed myself lately, kinda afraid to, but continuing to get stronger. Moved up and bought 2 50 lb dumbells on Monday ($100 each, geez) and am starting to feel actually strong. Also, will get an ocean swim in today for third day in a row. Eating like 2 x 1300 cal meals a day and maybe one snack.

I did this once before, about 18 years ago, gaining solid strength and then adding legit cadio on top. Was really fit then and plan to do it again, but may require 8 more months to get where i want to be. I’m a little surprised how much my strength has continued to increase and while I’m not losing weight, the weight is moving to more useful spots.

(I’m not holding off cardio, as I’m walking and such, but i really need a treadmill or similar. Would like to be doing 20-30 mins at 150 beats per min. I’ve always hated running outside, get injured easily, and need the motivation of a class.)

Current weight: 248.8 (-1.1)
10-day weighted average: 250.5 (+1.4)

What a bizarre week this was. I ODed on Black Forest cake after my fall, and had a slight concussion so I didn’t move much, but that still didn’t explain my 5.5 pound gain the next day. Especially since the scale didn’t move the day after. Cortisol, man.

Anyway, things are mostly back to normal. Still waiting for my lips to fully heal where I bit into them, so eating is a bitch, but pretty much fine otherwise.

Those sudden big changes up/down on the scale are so weird. Like poker up/downswings. Except there’s no random element? Idk what goes on with the human body.

I had one of those 4-5 lb. gains, and was like no way, so I reset the scale and tried again, and it was back to normal. I did it two more times, both normal. I am now suspicious that two similar high readings from earlier in the year were false.

As Keed said in his original thread, he could manipulate the weight by positioning his feet differently, so that might be part of it. I guess that 3.5th significant digit on the scale is 1 too many.

My go to bars are Quest bars. For protein heavy snacks I like dried edamame, jerky/meat sticks, cheese, Greek yogurt, kefir, cereal (Kashi is pretty good) and milk. Beans and eggs i usually eat as part of a meal

These look good. Cost a little more than the Costco ones but more flavors with about the same amount of protein and fiber. I like jerky but I’m doing Invisalign and my teeth hurt on really chewy stuff.

Week 6

Got to be happy with the results this week…considering.

Good news is I completely kept to the plan at home regards eating and drinking.

The other good news is had a fun week and really enjoyed myself. Had a meal out last Wednesday, but stayed calm - my brother had a bbq Saturday - the first time I’ve been is someone else’s house since this thing started. Food wise was very sensible - Steak Chicken and a couple of Prawns, and salad - and kept the portion sizes very reasonable. Drinkwise not so clever - but did have a blast.
Tuesday was Mrs S Birthday so went out for celebratory curry and a couple of pints.

Exercise - a good week - 6 days
Sardines - 4 days
Booze - non bbq 4 pints
Booze - bbq - by my best guess 6 beers (330ml not pint), 2 sherries, best part of 2 bottles of wine

For some strange reason Sunday was my no - exercise day

Even after all that my weight stayed the same, so happy with that, and looking forward to a quieter week this week
