Weight not going down, but getting my workouts in and strength is growing. Contemplating purchasing some 50 lb dumbells. Suspect I’ll have a good strength base when i eventually restart cardio workouts.
Yeah, definitely not bad, and I get my heart rate up and sweat in my 1 hr barbells workouts (bench, deadlift, curls, squats, shoulder, leg lifts, triceps, lats; repeat 3x at 8-12 reps each). Feeling good about being stronger and being able to throw my considerable frame around, but I would like to, and should, get more pure cardio in the mix.
Honestly probably wouldn’t really add to weight loss. If it makes you feel better do it but lifting weights will be more beneficial in my humble non medical expert opinion.
I’ll be posting another update tomorrow. Have not been very compliant the last two weeks. Hoping for no weight gain but doubt I will see much loss.
So I’m back to where I started when this thread got created. I ate some pot a few days in a row last week and ate everything in the house twice which caused a few pounds. Now I’m back at my starting point.
My main form of exercise in the before times was racquetball, which I played 3 days a week, was on a league, and was a pretty competitive player. As I’m unlikely to climb into an enclosed box with another person anytime in the near future, I’ve started trying to play tennis. The transition from racquetball to tennis is a son of a bitch. The swings are completely at odds with each other. Today was my third day trying tennis and things are getting a little better. I can keep the ball in play, but looks like a long road ahead of me.
That’s alright Fatboy, just get right back at it!

Small loss. If I can limit my cheat days to maybe one evening rather than Friday night-Sunday night I might start making some big improvements again.
Will power is tough for me. In the past I have always limited my access to bad food. Now that I live with other humans it is a lot tougher to do that.
Overall my habits are getting better. I just need to push myself a little bit more when things get tough.
People with other ideas about what is healthy food are a hazard. Cut out daily beer but made up for it on the weekend. Ok week but looking like goal is out of reach by week 8. That’s fine, I think I’m doing ok. Going to have some Kodiak cakes with butter and honey rn.

Down 5.1lbs since making the original post here almost 6 weeks ago. I know less than 1lb/week isn’t great but I haven’t been great eating wise over the last 6 days or so.
Started running again two weeks ago for the first time since pre-COVID. Now that I’ve got 2 weeks (7 runs under my belt) I plan to stick with it until it snows. I want to get my 3 mile time under 30 minutes. I’m currently way too heavy to do that, so will need to keep at it.
Disagree that 1 lb a week isn’t great, fwiw.
Thanks! Much appreciated.
So to clarify my “only 1lb/week”- here in the US we have youth football, called “Pop Warner Football” (eggball, not soccer) that have weight limits. For my age growing up I was always over the weight limit. So when practice started August 1st I’d go on a strict diet and insane exercise routine from 9-13 years old every August. I’d drop about 15-20lbs every August to make weight for Sept 1. So when I see August pop up on the calendar I think how much more it could be. But I know this is a marathon, not a sprint.
Still losing, calories were about 1900/day for the last week, so I guess I need to dial in my maintenance calories for my current activity level. That includes now 3 runs/week, 2 strength workouts (still very light weights), 1 core focused workout, and yardwork. My wife wants to start doing yoga, so I’ll be doing that occasionally as well to encourage and support her.
Looking very skinny, and not all that muscular, so need to keep working out shave, spray tan, and adjust lighting to get there.

- Kids do better socially, emotionally, and physically on a reliable schedule.
- Kids will often play to the point of exhaustion rather than stop to eat. This parent probably knows there will be a tantrum in 20 minutes without food now. Eating then going back to playing means more play time and activity than the alternative.

It’s been a weird week. Weight bounced all over the place, between 250.8 and 247.6 (those were consecutive days, btw). My back has been bad, so I haven’t been able to do a whole lot. But, I keep plugging along.
I have low expectations this week because it’s my birthday on Tuesday — probably going to be several “fun” meals
Or, you know, I could wipe out on my bike, bite deep into both lips, and not be able to eat a whole lot for the next few days, that’s good too. Probably won’t gain a lot of weight this way!
Holy shitballs, man. You look like you just went a round with Stipe Miocic. Hope your recovery goes smoothly!
Ouch, did you have a helmet on? Hope you are ok.
OUCH
Happy birthday!
It does, doesn’t it? Fortunately nothing hurt from the neck down, so recovery shouldn’t be too bad.
I was riding on a bike path, and a city worker was blocking half of it with a tractor mower. I veered around him (on a slight downhill) and found a huge puddle at the bottom. I tried going around it, but misjudged how far away I was and ended up sliding out. Just a really unlucky sequence.
Thanks. I did indeed. Probably saved me from some serious damage.
I know, right? At least I’ll have cake, it’s nice and soft.
That’s a little spooky.
