This is where Yglesias is being too smart by half. There’s no grand reconsideration of alliances and shifting away from Russia because they’re unstable ally or whatever high brow stuff they want to make up. These Thiel clones don’t care about Russia per se. The fever swamps like Russia for all their reactionary reasons and these Thiel clones just want power and they’ll say or do whatever they think it takes it get it, and like she says Vance realizes that he should play for the whatever Ukrainian votes there are.
Yeah the Russians winning this is not a lock if the Ukrainians decide to really put up a fight. They have a large military that has been in combat pretty regularly since 2014 and there have been a lot of weapons shipped to them.
The Russian military could be a lot less scary than the military industrial complex has led us to believe for all these years. I wouldn’t be that surprised.
