No but in order for Putin to invade a country that would trigger WW3, he’d have to first take Ukraine. So it would look like this, and ultimately only Putin really knows how far it’ll go.

The Whitehouse has announced that President Biden will be speaking tomorrow about further sanctions for the Russian occupation of Poland.

Not the thread I wanted to see over a hundred new posts in the last 1-2 hours. Hope this goes a lot better than it’s looking now.

CNN guy has buckled his helmet up, so things are getting serious. He’s breathlessly reporting that Russia’s attacks have been targeting Ukraine’s airbases. “It all points to the idea that Russia is neutralizing Ukraine’s air defenses.”

Well by treaty it’s any NATO country.

Putin has been saying for years essentially that he regards Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova as basically Russian territory that was stolen. I didn’t expect Putin to go so far as to annex Ukraine all in one go - if that’s really what he’s going to do - but there’s absolutely nothing that suggests that he has ambitions of a reverse-Napoleon-esque conquest of Europe.

If Russia went for one of the Baltic states that would be much more likely to be a flashpoint for a wider conflict, but Russia is not a superpower anymore and I would take some convincing that they would be able to stretch themselves that thin.

question now is is there any way western ukraine can be defended

gonna guess not really

If it doesn’t actually happen, it’s just a hoax. A false flag is a real attack perpetrated by someone other than the purported culprits.

But no, that wasn’t my point at all.

Ambassador talking about 6k nato troops like what…

What was your point? It seemed like you were making the point that the CNN reporter buckling his helmet was overly dramatic?

Bullshit. The invasion suggests that he has those ambitions, although it isn’t proof. His logic from his speech applies to Poland as well.
