Man ukraine was so terrible that they left a treaty that talked about nukes (never mind Russia was in clear violation of)

It took three partitions to whittle Poland down to nothing.

Semi irrelevant but I flew Berlin to Doha on the same day the MH17 was shot down over Ukraine. We had to take a 2 hour detour through central Russia.

We don’t, I doubt Putin does either. If we wait for him to invade NATO countries without nukes, we have to fire the first shots at another nuclear superpower, which we won’t want to do but will be obligated by treaty to do. So either we do it and risk Nuclear WW3 or we let NATO dissolve.

Or we put the troops there first defensively and give him the shitty choice.

It’s like 3betting small in position against a 20bb stack in a tourney to a size he can’t 4b against without committing. It puts him in the worst spot instead of us.

UN security council making speeches about something they seem unaware has already started.

Well, fuck.

ABC has a decent stream going if you’re un-cabled. Lots of explosions can be heard in Kiev.

non sequitur?

Explosions around Kyiv not a good sign for those still hoping he won’t take the whole country. We need large numbers of troops in Poland and the Baltic states yesterday. LARGE deployments.

New Biden statement: “The prayers of the entire world are with the people of Ukraine tonight as they suffer an unprovoked and unjustified attack by Russian military forces.”

THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS GUYS

Very on brand.

I don’t think it’s especially informative. Attacking command and control was always the first step; and some of that is in Kyiv.

Currently holding the UN Security Council Presidency… Russia.

So Putin’s cronies will make a shit ton of money, and no one will ever be held even the tiniest bit accountable. Cool.

Romney meanwhile blaming Obama and Hillary ETA: Missed the “America First” reference when I posted it, fair enough statement.

CNN truly is horrible. Going on now about how unexpected this is! One correspondent is performatively putting on a flak jacket while the one who is much closer to the front lines is reporting in a lovely scarf and a parka.

EDIT: He’s wearing his helmet at a jaunty angle! God.

people said putin had no interest in invading while they were planning it for months

ideally at least some of you reconsider where you are getting your sources of information now
