Ukraine, Russia, and the West

Yeah I need a word for “benevolent propaganda”.

Meh. It was still the intent. But of course in my system of justice there is no lesser crime of attempted murder. Just because you missed doesn’t get you a lesser sentence.

Lieutenant Chornovol, 42, is a former activist in Ukraine’s street protest movement who sent her two children to safety before reporting for duty as a reserve officer. She commands two teams of a half-dozen or so people each, firing Ukrainian-made, tripod-mounted missiles, which they transport to ambush positions in their personal cars.

Lieutenant Chornovol drives a red Chevy Volt electric hatchback, which she calls an “ecologically clean killing machine.”

Got to think of the planet

The initial exchange feels a little stiff but there’s some real communicating going on at the end.

Sure, Ted. But maybe if we took away his pipeline, he’d have less to lose so yolo. Or maybe he’d already made up his mind so it didn’t matter either way, you weak, feckless, ineffective sanction-weasel.

Sugar is pretty great but I don’t know if I’m standing in line for it. Toilet paper I could see.

Looks like this one is confirmed, at least that that Mariupol citizens are being deported to Russia. Not sure about being sent off to the hinterlands.

As long as China keeps trading with them there’s not much we can do…

Is there a reason for sugar to be coveted? I can’t remember the last time I bought sugar, but I guess it’s calorie dense? The US TP shortage in 2020 makes more sense in my head.

I’m sure I’m missing something.

The comments in the thread are along those lines. Russians like tea and want it sweet. Most people in line are older and remember previous shortages and do canning and make jam and stuff. People joking about distilling vodka. Idk, I bake cookies and sweet bread and use sweetener in tea/coffee but damned if I’m standing in a line like that for sugar.

anything non perishable becomes more valuable in times of inflation. if things got bad enough, sugar can be resold or converted into moonshine.
