Seems like there might have been a big counter-attack to keep the Russian army out of artillery range from Kyiv.

Easy to say that when you’re a POW of the country you’ve been slaughtering.

The estimate from people who study him is he burned his ships and in his mind it’s either win or end up like Gaddafi.

Maybe that’s wrong and given an off-ramp he takes it. But if he doesn’t like the prospect of desperately hanging onto power until he’s a little old dictator and dragging Russia back to the dark ages in the process, some of the possible outcomes are not so good for us.

But I guess that’s just what you said in more words.

ROFL this is a super power

Zero need for carriers because of the god knows how many local airbases in Europe. We would have instant and total air superiority.

There’s no doubt that if Russia operated the way they are in Ukraine against the US, they would be destroyed immediately, but they probably wouldn’t do that. It’s still pretty mysterious why the Russians are so ineffective, but it seems likely that it has a lot to do with how this specific war was set up—minimal notice to the army, imposition of unrealistic goals for political reasons, terrible morale among the troops because they’re just killing civilians for no reason, etc. Also, Russia’s army is heavily mechanized and has a real shortage of high quality personnel. That’s a good thing against NATO, because infantry outside of vehicles will just be killed immediately by bombs and artillery. But it’s terrible in this kind of war, where there’s an omnipresent threat from light infantry.

If defeated and forced to retreat, I think Putin is more likely to take some time to regroup and launch a better, more-prepared, more thought-out invasion, whether in Ukraine again or someplace new like Georgia instead of launching nukes in a hissy-fit.

How the West help exploit Russian weaknesses. Nothing really new here but it does show the standard layout of a Russian army and their strengths and weakness.

All these fucking checkmark dickweeds have is decorum, norms and etiquette. And it matters so so much in their little enclaves that they don’t realise how dumb they sound to normal people outside of the bubble.
