“Plausible” is such an important word in your statement. For reference, like a third of the US Adult population think Q Anon in plausible.

The world scene seems remarkably tolerant of whatever you want to call China’s ideology if this is the case.

Feels like one could make a poker analogy based on this.

I like this guy -

“What would moral crusade oriented sanctions look like? Inflict economic damage, so that population revolts and overthrows the regime. That’s an imbecile idea that never really worked and probably never will. Goal-oriented sanctions look differently. Maximise systemic shock in order to paralyse technological chains. That will lead to a military defeat, which will entail the fall of regime. That’s a great idea which usually works. It worked out with the USSR for example:”

However, I’m pretty sure we’ve been told in this thread that targeted goal-oriented sanctions are not really possible and that the only way to do sanctions is just destroy the Russian economy regardless of how much pain and suffering is inflicted on Russian citizens (and that in fact causing Russian citizens pain and suffering should be one of the goals of sanctions).

Yeah, but in 1989 brands didn’t have to tweet about MLK day and get yelled at on Twitter if they don’t do what the public wants quick enough.

kasparov has been calling it nuclear poker for weeks and months

Waitwaitwaitwaitwait. Do you mean to tell me that…

Of course he upped his risks because nobody was pushing back in the international community enough to dissuade him. So he felt emboldened to take greater risks.

Strongmen respect strength in others. It’s why they are so drawn towards each other.

‘Twas just a few weeks ago Sklansky argued that Putin is smarter than every modern US President or something like that.

It’s not the years, it’s the mileage. Not quite Putin old but 27 was last century.

I really wish he used his surfer guy voice in this scene.

Rickman’s accent when he runs into John outside is my favorite bad american accent ever

Daniel Craig in Knives Out holds the crown for this now imo.

I actually can’t fucking believe Putin is going to send it Belarus and Syria into Ukraine and the west can’t even grow some fucking balls to send it planes.

Putin keeps bluffing us with 27 offsuit and we keep folding QQ KK AA

What they should have done was arrest the Oligarchs and their family members who were in any extraditable countries. Charge them with money laundering, financing an illegal war, terrorism, whatever. Stop all the yachting and owning football clubs. Let them enjoy the beautiful Russian weather for a change.

If it’s true the Ukrainians have shot down dozens of planes, I don’t know if you can physically force pilots to go on suicide missions like you can (somewhat) with ground troops. Pilots can’t be tricked into getting slaughtered for a questionable cause.

Has anyone considered that we are secretly waiting to have the maximum number of Russians inside Ukraine before we take over the skies and murder them all in rage of fire and hate Mother of Dragon style. YOLO.

Microchips are a major bottleneck in modern industry. Russia doesn’t produce them. China theoretically could fill the gap but it will take years.

Seems to be true but still amazing. If my advisor managed to corner the used vacuum equipment market like he always wanted to, he’s probably swimming in cash right now.
