Don‘t tell me I learned twat waffle in ASL for nothing.

This seems like an interesting rumor.

How old are your students? If they’re picking it up that naturally, can’t imagine older than 13?

Listen. You yanks can’t even spell, let alone talk.

You seem less jaded than the rest of us. You, like, 27?

Arguing that Ukraine’s reported numbers for Russian losses don’t seem wildly inflated.

Many are basically fluent in English.

Off-topic, local students here in Como had a rally that didn’t piss me off. Kind of a general pro-peace/tolerance gathering. A kid recited the lyrics to Blowing in the Wind in English. Was wholesome.

Anything just happen? Equities futures jumped almost 1% in like 2 minutes. Gotta assume it’s Ukraine related given its so early in the morning Us time.

Impressive.

I was an ESL kid once, but I was young, 8.

I mean they see more English media than Czech by a landslide. They’ve been exposed to the language regularly their entire lives.

@Riverman said that equities would definitely be going down, so investors responded accordingly.

Getting a little bit off topic here, but I dont think prednisone face is really understandable unless you see a side by side comparison. So, here’s me being vulnerable and sharing two photos of myself, the left one being of a time that I absolutely hate to see photos of myself. These weren’t taken terribly far apart. Pred is a real motherfucker. But maybe Putin has some roid rage going on.

Is it just me or is sending Syrian fighters into Ukrainian lands a bad idea?

Russia is losing 400 troops per day on average. Vietnam war Americans lost about ~22 per day.

These Syrians will get cut the fuck up in Ukraine. None of them speak Russian. Russian commanders are having a bad time enough communicating with their Russian soldiers. Imagine a battalion of these guys under the command of a Russian that has to go through a translator.

Or you just give them guard post duties?

I can’t back it up at all, but I suspect people are underrating the possibility of a collapse of the Russian forces in Ukraine. (It’s a hard thing for an analyst to predict, because it’s like a 15% shot at the high end, so you usually end up looking like an idiot.). It seems clear that Russia has no reserves, and is scraping the bottom of the barrel to find soldiers to feed into attacks on the remaining cities. But if that doesn’t result in a negotiated agreement, then what happens? Are the generals going to be allowed to fall back from Kyiv and the Z city and Mariupol? It seems unlikely. The logistics situation is unlikely to improve. The morale situation is going to worsen if the Russians have to sit around for another week taking casualties and shelling civilians without achieving any military progress. Russia’s positions in the Northeast are really overextended, and there are big pockets of Ukrainian troops behind the frontlines. Is it truly implausible that Russian formations start getting encircled and destroyed?

I don’t really know what that outcome would imply. It’s higher variance than a negotiated peace, that’s for sure.

Isn’t the thesis that liberal democracy is the only remaining plausible ideology on the world scene? This war seems to vindicate that idea more than anything by exposing the basic unsoundness of vaguely-nationalist-strongmanism.

Was hoping by the title that this would be a travel documentary about weird borders like Point Roberts or Baarle-Hertog.

IDK about this. It’s pretty funny hearing a non-native English speaker invent new ways to swear.

I had worked with a Lithuanian immigrant who would say “that motherfuck shitbird”.

Cannon fodder, the Russians don’t give a fuck. Alternatively, these soldiers could be Assad’s butchers that are capable of unspeakable cruelty that Russians can feign plausible deniability re: their actions.
