Indeed!

Can someone explain why Omar and Bush voted against suspending oil imports from Russia?

So it seems like England is going to seize Chelsea from a Russian oligarch owner, which would be like the USA seizing a NFL team. Pretty crazy situation.

I’ve read that it means that Chelsea can’t buy/sell players or tickets, can’t do sponsorship stuff, and basically can’t do the business of really being a club. If they sell, the money is still frozen but they can do normal stuff again.

The Russians have had success against drones with electronic warfare. The UA MoD put out a tweet listing those vehicles as priority targets.

The Russians have also moved onto the Seize the Means part of SimpsonsUSSR.gif

And that goes double for McDonald’s. And Microsoft.

germany thought that they were a very big market for Nord Stream 1 and 2, and represented the EU as the distribution hub for the gas. they wanted to be the bulwark making sure that russia plays by the rules. this of course could have worked with say medvedev, and even putin pre-2012. but it did not align with putin post-2014.

to germany’s credit they are still steadfast on having russia stick to the agreed regulations, through many of russia’s attempts to circumvent the rules, and in principle a “future” russia may yet be well served by having the pipeline built, especially since russia is going to lose the transit route through ukraine.

but the biggest argument is that Nord Stream 2 as a project is a complete loser for russia, even if it eventually delivers gas as agreed. it was a gigantic expense which has almost no bearing on the amount of gas russia can sell. the current capacities for gas transfers are not even close to full. opening a new shiny pipe doesn’t even save on gas lost in transit. it’s just a scheme for timchenko/miller/sechin to get another couple of billions each. from that point of view, germany was stringing putin along by letting him build the pipe, and letting him destroy the russian economy in the process.

Meta Platforms (FB.O) will allow Facebook and Instagram users in some countries to call for violence against Russians and Russian soldiers in the context of the Ukraine invasion, according to internal emails seen by Reuters on Thursday, in a temporary change to its hate speech policy.

The social media company is also temporarily allowing some posts that call for death to Russian President Vladimir Putin or Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in countries including Russia, Ukraine and Poland, according to a series of internal emails to its content moderators.

Just sent this to my grandmother in Moscow, my only remaining relative in that rotting pit. Kinda fed up with the emotional blackmail of “if you value my life, you wouldn’t say these things”, and suchlike. To understand the depths of the delusion - her own sister lives in Kharkiv, and they’ve “agreed to discuss only how well everyone is, and not current events”.

This woman is not stupid, she was a tenured professor of Latin at a prestigious institute for her 50+ year career and has published several books & texbooks on Romans, Latin, all that good stuff. She is 96 years old (yeah, yeah, I know, I’m a bad person), and still fully compos mentis, even if a little deaf. She is still actively publishing, or at least editing textbooks as far as I am aware.

She is a Russian Jew who has been both-sidesing this since 2014. It’s fucking enough.

(I write to her in English and she writes to me in Russian)

The Russian words in order are:

противостояние - Confrontation/opposition
вторжение - Invasion
военное преступление - War crime(s)
геноцид - Genocide

American conservatives are big fans of this move by Putin. They think he’s sticking it to woke culture.

I’ll be curious to see what develops here. Like I would imagine any tech companies with manufacturing operations or proprietary information on their computers in Russia would be thrilled to have them hacked and wiped, cyber attacked, shut down, etc.

Not that radically different from the Donald Sterling situation

Can assure you conservatives are not sweating that. They have been calling the libs Nazis and Woke for a long time.

The Wagner Group is, in fact, named after Richard Wagner. It seems to me that they might be better at re-nazifying than de-nazifying.

Pretty sure he kept the money though

meanwhile, VSU captures a russian drone and is doing an unboxing video
