Ukraine, Russia, and the West

Actually, to be fair, if the nukes start flying, a non-NATO country might be the best place to be.

The world is going to get rebuilt by the Finns, Swedes, Irish & Africans.

Not that nervous.

Just have him register with the US embassy in Helsinki and obey any warnings the government gives about potential attacks.

Congrats to your son

Sweden stayed neutral during WW2 and were able to stay out of it. That might have influenced their stance up to recently.
Finland bordering the USSR probably caused hesitancy both from NATO and Finland itself.

Fox News will be parroting that point within a week. It goes well with their narrative that Biden is causing high gas prices.

You’ll have to let me know if that happens, for some reason for all the news clips Youtube recommends to me, Fox never comes up.

This is a video of the Russians doing their best Grandpa Simpson enters and exits impression:

The Russians trying to roll into Kyiv in broad daylight with a bunch of clustered vehicles is wild.

For comparison, look how the Ukrainian forces hit the first and the last vehicle of the column (~0:21) to try to trap them there. That looks like sound tactics.

What exactly are tanks good for in modern warfare?

Not to make light of the situation, but that big clusterfuck of tanks reminded me of playing “Red Alert” and storming the enemy base with a whole bunch of tanks. The strategy rarely worked against a well/smartly defended base, and was only really used by amateurs.

They are good for moving forces through in rural and desert areas. Think of them as more mobile artillery. They are okay in small amounts in urban warfare, but I don’t think they should ever be in the open and not accompanied by ground forces ( and not just ones right nearby)

Call of Duty really undersold how powerful javelins are, Ukrainians keep one-shotting these tanks when it takes like three hits in CoD to stop a tank.

That would seem logical since historically the threat has been fast moving planes or missiles.

I don’t want to overstep my experience though, since this was a job using radar to track birds in sensitive wildlife habitats (think industrial toxic ponds, wind farms, airports, etc) and drones mostly commercial reasons. We also had a few contracts with DoD but that was still just for tracking birds & drones. Also, that was from 5 years ago at this point so I’m losing more of that knowledge day-by-day

Real world needs a balance patch imo.

That’s awesome, I assumed you were a military radar operator and were trying to filter out these damn birds. But you were looking for birds! Bet you guys got a big boost in business after that Sully bird accident.

I thought I heard the word Bayraktar at about :40 in that video.

I remember reading the Iraq War invasion and the US troops would push into a city or area until they hit resistance and instead of risking infantry to go take out a position they’d just call up a tank who’d laugh at the enemy while the enemy shot the tank with AKs and RPGs and would then obliterate the position and then the troops would push on to the next objective.
