Russia being kicked out of international hockey as well:
What’s everyone’s take on how Trump would be handling this right now? I feel like his bluster would be some combo of “Ukraine is no angel either” and “This is a great chance for us to sit back and let the rest of the NATO deadbeats pay back what they owe us by doing all the work” and “we can get some great deals from Russia by being the only ones doing business with them right now, I know all about deals!” while Congress overrules him on everything and makes sure we do what we have to do.
Yes, well, part of the strain on mine and my Russian Jew dad’s relationship probably arose when I said “you voted for a fascist, so you can go fuck yourself” (and that was in 2020, I think he voted Hillary or abstained in 2016). So I’m kinda in your boat there.
As anyone who has had any interaction with me on these forums knows, I don’t tend to mince my words after a few shandies.
That’s probably about right. My simple take is that it could go two very different ways: 1) he loves Putin and doesn’t want to do anything to help Ukraine (and says the types of shit you mentioned), but is eventually forced to by Congress/handlers, OR 2) even though he loves Putin, he wants to play tough guy and sends the military to fight.
In either scenario, Trump would obviously take all the credit.
Yea probably something like that. It’s also basically what the Chinese are doing now or are going to do. Let everyone else beat each other up, then get some sweet deals from Russia when no one else will buy their shit.
cliffnotes?
Putin ups his game: Moscow warns against supplying lethal weapons to Ukraine | Reuters
Russia’s foreign ministry said on Monday that those supplying lethal weapons to Ukraine will bear responsibility should they be used during Russia’s military campaign there.
The ministry added that the steps the European Union has taken against Russia will not be left without a harsh response.
There’s way more in a Norwegian article that’s more chilling, but can’t find it at the Reuters site for some reason.
We are at an all time peak of tweets from people letting you know they are smarter than you without explaining in detail their theory/whatever point they are trying to make.
Putin’s red line has been crossed for a while now and he’s done nothing but proceed as planned.
I’m all for sanctions against Russian aggression, including on oil sales even though that will raise our prices.
That said, expanding Nato was an atrocious idea. We poked the bear, now Ukrainians are paying the price.
As news reports reveal that Ukrainians have adopted Twisted Sister’s defiant anthem We’re Not Gonna Take It as their rallying cry in resisting Russian military aggression in their country, the band’s former frontman Dee Snider has taken to Twitter to offer his thoughts.
“I absolutely approve of Ukrainians using ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’ as their battlecry" the musician wrote.
"My grandfather was Ukrainian, before it was swallowed up by the USSR after WW2. This can’t happen to these people again! #FUCKRUSSIA.”
Bullshit
Trump will never forgive Ukraine
If anything, the USA would be there bombing Kiev along with the Russians.
A rough translation of the major parts. From vg.no, via Reuters, who translated an Interfax press release. (for the Russian speakers).
“The institutions and citizens of the EU countries involved in supplying lethal arms and more will be held responsible for their actions in light of the ongoing military operations. They must understand the possible severity of said consequences.”
The rest isn’t anything new. But imo the tone of the above quote is a degree or two harsher than what Russia’s said so far.
Putin’s speech and the presumptuously published news piece celebrating glorious victory in The Ukraine barely references expanding NATO. It talks a TON about bringing Ukraine back to her rightful place among Russia’s Baltic heritage, and reversing the great disaster of 1991.
It’s really hard to imagine a scenario where this same situation doesn’t play out with Ukraine assuming no NATO expansion. And a lot more countries would be at risk.
Read this and tell me not expanding NATO would have made a difference:
