Ukraine, Russia, and the West

Yeah, they regularly out terrible czars and leaders after 20-30 years of misrule.

you are not dealing with a rational actor with a nuclear arsenal. he’s been signaling that he is going to go full retard for months. it’s time to mitigate damage, which is to prepare to disable his nuclear capacities.

That’s all true, except that I still think it remains notable.

This is not a thing, at all. It’s not possible, it’s not conceivably possible, and their system is designed to eliminate it as a possibility. Ever see Dr Strangelove? It’s a bit like that.

We don’t know whether anyone has the ability to do that, but it is unlikely that we do.

Even if it’s propaganda, it’s still notable.

well Putin regards SWIFT as a declaration of war. he actually considered ukraine nato dalliance a declaration of war anyway, soo…. we are 3 days after the invasion and the war is declared, albeit not automatically because there were no preexisting treaties?

again. you are the best kind of technically correct

a contingency plan like that exists at the nato command.

A plan certainly exists to attempt to decapitate Russia’s nuclear strike capabilities. The degree to which it is likely to work and the percentage of their nuclear capabilities we could eliminate, though, are likely well below 100% in both cases.

chechens for ukraine

I don’t really think of Russia using nukes as a strategic decision. It’s more like Putin sees that his entire’s life work is ending in humiliation and disgrace and his enemies crossed some perceived line and they deserve annihilation.

Cliffs: For reasons no body knows Siberian riot police were sent to Kiev, told to drive though the heavy shooting outside the city, and try to capture the city. They promptly get ambushed. Like sending the Omaha SWAT team to take Baghdad

The assumption that Putin has the ability to trigger nuclear apocalypse by himself ITT is really something.

How hard can it be?

I do assume that Putin has the ability to order a nuclear strike. If that’s objectively incorrect, I’d be interested in learning more.

So there appear to be two versions of that video of the Chechen leader. I think it’s Western propaganda and the version claiming they won’t go fight is dubbed. The version saying they can take Kyiv no problem seems to match his lip movements better.

this all is shaping up to end with putin taking off in a space ship for another planet with 100 of the most loyal concubines, a la the ending of Don’t Look Up.

Orders sent pre-invasion, apparently (and the SKY interpretation is nowhere near as extreme as the real interpretation) @d2_e4 ?

Every person following his order would know they were triggering nuclear annihilation. There are quite a few layers between Putin and the actual missile launch… and the other oligarchs definitely don’t want nuclear annihilation.
