Ukraine, Russia, and the West

Maybe there’s no nuclear football - something more complex for this dictator, maybe

I’m willing to humiliate Putin without offering him some face-saving way out of the war.

Just so I understand your position more fully, do you believe that Kim Jong-un could launch a nuclear strike if he wanted to?

Yes this is the hope.

Seems like a far more likely scenario to get to annihilation is a tactical nuke, or a single punitive nuke launched with the threat of launching more. It’s hard to imagine Russia ever launching a massive first nuke strike.

Probably not. I don’t think the US president can either.

In retaliation it flies as intended…, but shooting first is harder. People won’t stay loyal. You’re asking them to kill everyone they ever met.

Just got a voicemail from a local Jehovah’s Witness assuring me that this war is all part of God’s plan. Seemed important to share.

Is there time to make it into the 144,000?

I mean, the translation of his words seems accurate, if that’s what you’re asking me?

Ok so these guys can’t order a strike because there would be enough rationality and restraint somewhere in the chain of command to prevent it. I’m not sure I’d be willing to bet everything on that.

They might also believe that Kim Jong-un would kill their family if they don’t press the button.

I hope we never have to. But Putin in particular has a 50/50 chance of dying of lead poisoning within an hour of ordering that strike. It’s the stuff palace guard revolts are made of. I think he’s aware of this too.

Edit: this was an incident from 2010. Sorry for the misinformation.

Re dead Gazprom guy.

Klyuka’s body was found early on Sunday in the front seat of his Range Rover in an underground garage in Moscow, with a gunshot wound to the head, the Interfax news agency cited an unidentified police source as saying.

Police suspect suicide, though there was no suicide note, Interfax cited the source as saying. A Czech-made handgun was found near the seat, the report said.

I think the only way to get it done with lead in an hour is to bash him over the head with a lead pipe.

CNN Reporter, he’s doing a live shot now with the presumed large fire in the background.

The chain of command to launch nukes can be as small as Putin ordering it, the guy next to him relaying that message to a/all submarines and then 1 or 2 people on each submarine to actually launch. The guy next to him is not going to say no as he gets immediately executed so that message gets sent and you are betting on the sub guys not following orders during fog of war. I never want to be close to that.

No suicide note, but at least he was as diligent in death as he was in life - put one in his back and one in each temple to make sure.

next is reporting 5000 russian soldiers around Belgorod refused to advance on kyiv. foreign invasion isn’t in their contracts.

If this is real I will start giving Elon the benefit of the doubt again, for a while at least.

Yes, BBC seemed to translate more fully but they took the full version down. Something about the decision already been made, no stopping it - almost seemed to imply the ICBM’s were already pointed. Probably bluster but strong bluster at that. Link to a full version here
