Yeah I have no idea on that, I assume there are several people involved in giving that order, but they might get shot in the head for refusing it.
Man imagine the intel the US and the rest of NATO are feeding Ukraine command right now. I assume we can see everything the Russians are doing, even at night, down to the last tank and troop carrier. Has an invaded country ever had that superpower-level of intelligence support before?

Obviously the hope is he gets deposed internally. I suspect that would happen before his military would launch an extinction-level nuclear strike, if not before letting him launch any kind of nuclear strike at civilians. It’s not like most Russians want this. And if he’s really gone mad there will be conversations. He’s not a cult of personality leader that has a loyal following in insane sycophants running his military. But again - no one wants to find out.
Tactical nukes could be a really bad murky area.
I certainly don’t want to reward him, but, like, this has to end somehow. I don’t think there’s a path to it ending that doesn’t involve giving him something to save some face.

Dunno, reading the article ITT about Russia’s perspective, seems pretty clear to me. Putin doesn’t really care about holding Kiev indefinitely, which is what we were all so confused about Putin being so wrong about given the fierce resistance.
This is all about decapitating Ukraine’s leadership. Fleeing is not happening but seems inevitable they will get to Zelensky eventually one way or another. Once that happens, then Putin doesn’t care about Kiev much anymore and focuses on annexing all the parts of Ukraine that are passive/indifferent about who rules them and/or are pro-Russia.
It’s so logical that can see why Western leaders were so non-pulsed by the imminent evasion until it actually happened and it become horrifically real.
