Brittania would still rule the world under those rules.
(Or the Nazis or the Spanish or the Huns or ….). That makes no sense when it’s your back yard.
It’s called the resistance. It seems to pop up against foreign invaders. They have to fight back somehow. If the authoritarian control gets established it might be decades before it changes. (See Europe, eastern; or China, pick your region). It’s not always a success but criticizing them for trying?
i’m going to go out on a limb. i’ve bet regime change in russia before, and there’s certainly still time for my wager to come through. but this is hella accelerationist. this will be the end of putin.
The Millennial Spirit tanker that Russia shelled in the Black sea was flying a Moldovan flag, but had Russian crew. None died but 2 seriously injured. Definitely winning the hearts and minds in mother russia. I’m still hoping Putin gets out over his skis and loses his grip at home.
I know a few Ukrainians, and although I am not knowledgeable enough to speak on behalf of Ukraine I get the impression that culturally they are keenly aware of the price of Russian subjugation. For example the stories of the 1930s starvation of the Ukraine by Soviets is handed down generation to generation and they reasonably believe that if they don’t die fighting a Russian invasion they will later die under Russian control. They are certainly brave, but they’re also desperate.
