Ukraine Invasion 2: no more Black Sea fleet for you

Europe cutting off all natural resources from Russia necessarily spikes the cost of living. One worry is that the populace of European countries would be likely to ‘revolt’ and become more nationalistic, less unified in their Ukraine stance. Le Pen types would gain more power. Heck she is not far behind Macron as we speak, for example.

This is a potential negative and profound repercussion I’ve seen speculated on. Personally I am all for stopping the purchase of Russian exports. But perhaps the combination of China, India, etc not on board and internal European strife makes it a harder call.

Getting caught up in pushing the uniqueness of the Holocaust moves the Overton window and makes people think in terms of how much genocide they are willing to tolerate in order to avoid risking nuclear war.

That video is insane.

Good point. Otoh, leaders probably should be thinking in those terms. Worst trolley problem ever.

It’s not “state run media,” dude. It’s state run media. There is no media in Russia right now that is not broadcasting or publishing without direct government oversight. And why are you pretending like Putin himself hasn’t already gone on the record with genocidal speech?

Is it possible they have been instructed to say this even if they have received a lot?

WASHINGTON—The Senate voted 100-0 to pass a bill Thursday stripping Russia of its most-favored-nation trade status and was set to next approve a ban on Russian oil imports to punish Moscow over its invasion of Ukraine, several weeks after the House cleared both pieces of legislation.

It is obviously in the interests of both Ukraine and the USA that Russia doesn’t know the extent of the arms the US has supplied them with, so it’s hard to evaluate just what the USA has given as a rando on the internet.

Yes, this is the point I was making.

Is the argument of some people ITT that we shouldn’t seek to prevent genocide, only punish it after the fact?

So weird that Ukraine don’t just lie back and accept Russian occupation.

It’s been reported every where that only Czech has sent tanks.

So unless there is something else working in the background, I’ll accept that if Ukrainians, Pentagon, NATO are saying they haven’t sent tanks, it means they haven’t sent tanks.

Does it even matter how we call it? These people are dead. They are not coming back and if you dont believe in god and some kind of paradise this is the end. The majority of them had to go far too early in their lives. We throw theses numbers of killed/dead people around but does anyone really care what they mean(its not just Ukraine, you can use any region in crisis)?

Yeah, that’s exactly it. You’re handwaving away the entire point.

I’m not saying that such things are definitely happening. All I’m saying is that it is very difficult to know.

It sounds like you understand this as well. As it would be very cumbersome for you to append an “Assuming this reporting is true…” to the beginning of each of your posts on this issue, I’ll just read them as if that’s implied.

Yeah, that’s the one. Nice find!
