USA had 300000 South Koreans fighting in Vietnam (SK at the time was very poor). It’s not just running out of bodies, it’s that poor countries sell slaves to fight in foreign wars.
I think the US did need troops though? Not well versed on vietnam war history. Reportedly, russia is paying as little as 2k euro a month for each soldier. They’ve also just done another round of conscriptions - at estimates of ~1k casualties/day they gotta run out at some point. NK being willing to loan up to 10% of its standing military is quite something, though. Even with US support I’ve had a difficult time imagining how this ends with Ukraine winning for a while now.
Need? 16 million Americans fought in WW2 and 3.4 million fought in Vietnam. Politically USA needed more, but it wasn’t out of people. In Russia I’m sure it’s just a political calculation that buying (I guess renting is more accurate) some North Koreans is beneficial.
GDP per capita in NK is $1217. If Russia is paying 2k Euro per month, that’s a lot.

Really doubt Russia can pay those soldiers in Euros but even an equivalent in goods would get them plenty of North Korean ‘volunteers’.

Average age for both Ukrainian and Russian military is over 40. The North Korean slaves may be better fighters than the geriatrics who are currently fighting.

They’re also well trained in their equipment and raised and live their whole life under the cult of personality. I don’t think the North Korean troops have the mindset you would see in a Western person pressed into slavery, and they’re probably much more motivated, fierce, and capable fighters than you’re giving them credit for being. Whether they’re actually given the tools to succeed or will just be used as cannon fodder, I don’t know.
