azov regiment are not nazis. neither was bandera fwiw. but proRU narratives are conflating the two, while also helping to make bandera more popular in ukraine. you could argue both that is intentional or unintentional consequence of kremlin’s actions.
a common joke right now is that of the powers that fought in ww2, german reich doesn’t exist, soviet union doesn’t exist, but an independent ukraine does. so bandera was ultimately more successful than hitler or stalin.
Bandera gets a bad rap I guess. I’m sure you’d wear Paul’s Bandera patch with pride.
feels like projection. thin blue line patches trigger me a lot more
Just different people prioritizing different things. Keed wants to portray US help for Ukraine as illegitimate, so he’s not going to pass on an opportunity to call Ukrainians Nazis. VFS prioritizes the survival of a Ukrainian state, so he’s willng to throw in with people who are no angels.
Me? I think sending Stalin weapons was correct even though he’s a 100x worse than Azov.
of course a closer look at ww2 sides reveals atrocities so horrible that they are only comparable to ww1. that’s a given. which is why every veteran i knew never talked about the war. it was poor form to ask.
but still it’s not often that a historical event elevates someone who died half a century prior to basically living monument levels. that’s what putin did to bandera’s image. sorta “in soviet russia, streissand effects gets you.” and even more so bandera was basically only a freedom fighter of his day, and now L’viv is unofficially Bandershtadt. And yet i dont think St Putinburg is happening. Somehow what bandera patch represents is not the fascism of the 30s-40s or the modern 20s, but ukrainian freedom from colonialism from three different directions across three centuries, with a jewish president to boot. who btw is worrying me that he’s kinda copying castro’s look.
That’s giving natsec reporters a lot of undeserved credit. You think they’d be looking into Hersh’s story if the balloon nonsense wasn’t happening? They don’t need an excuse to ignore stuff that’s bad for Raytheon and Boeing.
The Western District way.
Seems odd all around, like if the US is launching missiles and dispatching planes are reporters of any ilk supposed to be like, “Nice try America it’s just a distraction from Section 234234 subsection 234234234 of bill fdasfawefawf”? Are they pulling reporters off of the Nordstream beat to cover balloon-gate?
This is revolting
i’m more upset by russia killing ukrainian civilians and kidnapping their children from occupied territories. you know actual ru govt policy and actions in place for almost a year. even though i don’t see myself buying a voodoo doll, i don’t object to individuals raising money for ukraine in a way that conveys and confronts the atrocities of war.
You’re not upset about the voodoo dolls made from dead russian soldiers’ uniforms at all. You’re gleeful.
I’m guessing that people who support Ukraine generally aren’t bothered by orc voodoo dolls.
And neither are you upset by Russia’s actions at all….and worse than gleeful, you view their actions as a springboard to provoke others.
Certainly not, and maybe this shows that Ukraine is actually ready to join the West. Gruesome war trophies are an American tradition of sorts.
This post just after MP’s post is perfect. Thank you
