Ukraine Invasion 2: no more Black Sea fleet for you

Yeah, seems like a dick measuring contest for Wagner, and for Ukraine, I figure they must be inflicting a lot more in the way of casualties than they’re taking (otherwise they’d retreat), so they’ll just keep it up as long as Russia wants to. It’s resources that could be going to Kherson oblast on the east bank of the Dnipro, so that’s another reason for Ukraine to keep the fighting away from their own strategic interests.

Yeah, seems like Prigozhin has a Trump-like ability to never give in when he’s losing, which works great until it doesn’t. Ukraine seems to be exploiting the situation.

That doesn’t meet even Biden’s threshold for talks. Putin would rather roll the dice on holding on through the Winter and making gains in Spring.

I thought someone had posted this. It’s not war related but still. Apparently Carol of the Bells originated as a Ukrainian folk song

Colour me shocked, has there been a more obvious choice in the past 3 decades?

Donald Trump?

Being discussed on the Betting in Politics thread but I am probably going to lose 4K USD that I bet on Zelensky POTY because their actual choice was “Volodymyr Zelensky and the Spirit of Ukraine”, because everything has to be stupid and over-complicated now.

Good news is my Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Spirit of Ukraine bet is coming in yuge.

You can spell it Zelenskyy, Zelensky or even Zelenskiy, it just depends which transliteration scheme you choose.

I know the joke was what if someone didn’t get paid because of a different transliteration

TIL that Time only changed it to “Person” of the year in 1999. On the infrequent (only?) occasions they had a woman they made it “woman of the year”. Which seems a bit weird.
