Trump's America

However, Southwell, the professor, who also co-edited the book “Governing Oregon,” said the walkout might actually bring the two sides closer together. It will signal to Democrats that “a supermajority is not a guarantee you can get things done.”

“It might have a moderating influence,” she said.

A moderating influence on the supermajority

Democrats are such pushovers. I feel like they did this to Republicans years ago, perhaps in Illinois? If I recall correctly, the GOP had them arrested and hauled in by the sergeant at arms or state troopers or something.

If I ran the Oregon Democratic Party, we’d round them up, haul them in, and add something to the bill they’d absolutely loathe before passing it, because fuck you that’s why. See if you want to walk out again. See what happens.

I’m pretty sure they tried this with fines and sending the police after them and it ended with armed militias threatening the dems.

Sounds like they should table this vote, tell the GOP they won, congrats they get to run the state with a super minority, then once they trick them into coming back and get a quorum, change the damn rules.

Marx was a Jew who converted to Lutheran. This is interesting and would make a good article that maybe I should pitch to @bro to write or take a shot at myself. It seems like the identity of Jews in the US is being torn apart by politics, mostly around Israel, and partly around the party split. I’ve seen not just Shapiro here, but Jews on 2p2 with the attitude that being a Jew is a combination of being religious and, really supporting Israel - and in the sense that you support the occupation (annexation).

I am one to readily throw around the accusation that peoples’ “belief” is shallow and I would submit that this right-wing pro-Israel American “Jew” is not really that religious at all and I would liken it to many of the Evangelicals who I think prove through their behavior that they are not really religious, and it’s just an expression of identification with a group. Perhaps these people should be called Evangelical Jews.

Historically I’m not sure what the identification of “Jew” really was. For most of my lifetime it certainly has been around ancestry and that’s certainly partly because of Jewish Law (you are Jewish if your mother was a Jew, regardless of how you practice or what you believe), but it’s also certainly a result of antisemitism and the holocaust. Because of antisemitism Jews were ghetto-ized in Europe and that held the culture apart and the holocaust certainly strengthened the sense that ethnic Jews must stand together. Well, the holocaust is now something that few people alive experienced first hand and Jews have largely assimilated culturally in the US.

It’s weird that the “religious” Jews are the ones who are abandoning the identification of Jew based on ancestry more than the cultural/ethnic Jews are, but again, I think most religious people, including these Evangelical Jews, are phonies.

Imo, no, but they should be impeached and removed.

Close and lock the doors once everyone is in and then pass a fire code exception to the state house and senate chambers with your new quorum

“I treat everyone with respect.”

Why not?

She wasn’t fired and presumably the problem was being a racist.

Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon demoted Prejean from his position as Chief Deputy after Prejean admitted to the affair last year.

What happened in Louisiana’s history that their naming conventions are so fucking weird? It can’t just be the French thing. “Leland Falcon”?

She resigned and a lot of judges are elected officials.

If you have heard what’s in them they aren’t private anymore are they?

Just talking to Kerowo? I see your point about firing people (not that I necessarily agree), but she’s probably an elected official.

There’s a difference between protecting people’s private lives as nothing to do with their employers, and employers finding out about things that materially affects ability to do the job. Where I come from judges are not elected and if it turned out one of them was a racist (which I’m certain some are, obviously), I would want them fired for obvious reasons.

In contrast there’s a scandal here (France) at the moment where a guy running for mayor had videos of him showing his penis to a consenting woman put on the internet. He stepped down and pretty much everyone thinks it a disgrace that the videos were made public and, correctly imo, the people that did that have been arrested.

You know what’s better than not getting fired for saying racist shit you say to your friends? NOT saying racist shit to your friends.

If we aren’t going to hold judges to a higher standard who are we? I have no problem with being held accountable for what you say regardless of context, particularly when there isn’t a valid context for your speech. “It was just locker room talk” is bullshit.

So because some non-POS “liberal” may get caught putting on black-face or calling one of their constituents a racial slur we should give a pass to the POSs that can’t do it all the time?

What is your point here? Digital communications should be private? No shit, but that boat sailed a long time ago. Being held accountable for your actions is better. If you know you are going to be held accountable for what you do, maybe you won’t do such stupid shit?

LMAO
