They had a good run in 97 when they had Gretzky and Messier, lost to the Flyers in the ECF. I’m also pretty sure they had the most points in the league in one of the last 5 seasons but choked in the 2nd round.
They lost in the conference finals that year, then got bumped in the early rounds of the playoffs the two years after that.

Ah yeah, I forgot it was the year they came back from 3-1 down twice. I had high hopes, they should have won it all, that was an elite team.

The level of pandering you have to do these days to even think about running as a Republican is just astounding.
It also never fails to blow my mind that right-wing derpers seem to have no end to how much blatant, obvious, drippingly insincere pandering they will eagerly lap up. They’re like the opposite of teenagers, who get instantly bored with being fed the same formula. Derpers never tire of it, and just seem to crave more volume and intensity the more they get.

One of the strongest psychological motivators is the desire for simplicity and a feeling of control in a world that is inherently complicated and where many outcomes are totally out of one’s control. Modern conservatives lean into this very heavily (and of course into other psychological weaknesses like inclinations to fear things that are different). A perpetual losing modern liberal approach is to try to engage on technocratic nuance instead of banging people over the head over and over again with simple messages. “Hope and change!” works. “3% better outcomes through deliberate project management!” does not.
