Trump's America

A rose by any other name would … likely also be a communist

Man I wish the democratic party was as cool as republicans think it is.

Maybe. Sometimes I wish I could sell my soul and just grift on the whole Jewish Republican thing.

You’ll be even more impressed when you check back tomorrow and his name has suddenly become Joshua Bernstain.

Me too. I asked my 12yo what he thought about my get rich eventually scheme. He thought it sounded cruel. Sigh…

The good news is that at least consumers won’t be subjected to another shitty Howard Gordon show.

The Righteous Gemstones: not so over the top after all.

Yup, sounds about right. I love my home city, but it’s racist af

I think The Righteous Gemstones is what would happen if a family of atheists decided megachurches would be the best way to grift. It’s very obviously supposed to be a take off on Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker amped up to meth degrees.

I just watched the first episode of the Gemstones last night. It’s unbalanced, and has moments of Cohen-esque filmmaking - wish it was a little “smarter”… I like it over all but think it could have been much better. Maybe it’ll improve in later episodes.

That uneven tone (Coens do humor well in a dark universe, while all the dark moments in Danny McBride stuff are really sickening in my opinion) is a characteristic of most David Gordon Green/Danny McBride product I’ve seen. It goes between over the top caricatures of characters and then super dark material that doesn’t really belong in the type of show it is.

A great example of the tonal imbalance of the show is the ‘film room’ scene. That was just way way too over the top with what and how they showed it. Dialing it back isn’t really a Danny McBride strength from what I can tell. I think the show’s moderately interesting, and I’m keeping with it for now. I guess watching comedies like this is kind of like watching a train wreck or something. I used to say Vice Principals was about as entertaining as watching a school shooting, but I watched the mean spirited show all the way through.

I don’t know how much notice this is getting in other parts of the country, but…

Prosecutors won’t retry couple accused in shooting of antifa protester on UW campus during Milo Yiannopoulos event

Long story short, Milo was coming to speak at the University of Washington back in 2017, and the predictable protest & counter-protest was inevitable.

This deplorable couple strapped up with multiple weapons, including a 9mm pistol, to go get in people’s faces and “crack skulls.” After a few skirmishes, things got more heated and the wife pulled out the gun and shot a guy (he lived).

Fast forward to this summer. Their assault trial ends in a deadlocked jury (along “ideological lines”) and a mistrial. The county prosecutor isn’t going to retry the case because I guess we just have to let them get away with it? I mean FFS they intentionally took weapons to an event they knew would be heated and explicitly planned to mix it up and put themselves in a dangerous situation.

God dammit this pisses me off so bad.
