Trump isn't trying to seize power

He corrupted state officials, just not enough of them. The weakest, least powerful coup attempt ever… a very, very unpowerful coup, but a coup nonetheless.

Oh Christ this was my fault for replying initially? Sorry, friendos.

Uh, he tried? He did everything he could to corrupt the courts, and he sure seems to think that they were corrupt enough that he had a shot.

What did he do to corrupt the courts?

It may not be a coup but it’s dangerous none the less. amead covered it in the post above.

Nominate a massive slate of unqualified judges on the basis that he estimated that they’d have his back.

Nor is it preposterous for him to think that he’d have a chance. The Muslim ban was a mockery of a ruling but upheld by SCOTUS after getting laughed at by every lower level.

I know Dan Carlin isn’t well liked on this forum but he summed it up perfectly in his last podcast.

I mostly agree with Keed.
No, I will not read the replies.

Of course what Trump is doing is dangerous

I think Keed is mostly correct. We just can’t hold Trump to the same standards of anyone else. He is in his own reality and his words, tweets and actions behave differently to literally everyone else on earth.

It doesn’t mean it’s not dangerous, it’s just Trump being Trump.

We aren’t arguing the level of dangerous

We are arguing is it a coup

It is.

Is it “legitimate” to change the rules such that state legislatures set their electors against the will of the voters? Because Trump tried that, too.

Don’t know what you’re talking about here so I can’t say.

By definition it is a coup. Just because he has a less than 1% chance of succeeding doesn’t mean he didn’t try.

I don’t know what I think

I still maintain Trump does not want to be President, but also has no exit strategy.

It’s legitimate to ask the legislatures to look at voting irregularities and for them to take that into account when certifying elections. Trump has zero control over any of these processes, it’s totally up to the states. If he somehow manages to get a bunch of legislatures to disregard legitimate election results, of course that’s not legitimate. But there’s no indication that’s happening.

Like this is bad and disruptive and hurts the country. But it’s PR and manipulation of Trump’s loyalists, not an attempt to take power.

This has to be up there with some of the most naive posts on the forum.

How about we start with nominating a huge amount of unqualified Trump sycophants to the bench. Literally people who have never tried any cases.

I tried a case as an intern at the DAs office in law school…
