38 GOP votes against. Gonna be a rough shutdown for Elmo. Looking forward to the 2 trillion in spending cuts.
Read the last 10 or so of Elmo’s tweets. He’s just doing the Gringrich drown government in the bathtub thing. Does he not realize that Trump running against this is basically what got him elected in 2016 and 2024? This “debate” has been going on 30 years, or maybe 100 years. Maybe Elmo should talk to speaker Ryan about how well this stuff works. Like he buys a lvl 90 character and thinks he’s all ready for endgame.
Shutdown seems super likely. Trump and elmo give no shits and the odds of the Dems and GOP getting together to flank them seems very low.
Its also super convenient to battle this out now because Trump isn’t even in office. Speaking of which when does Joe rise from the grave to address this? I haven’t seen any reports regarding Biden in all this. Even left leaning outlets are reporting he is mia. Shocking
elmo WANTS a shutdown, he wants gov’t all gone
biden completely checked out awhile ago
same tbh
doesn’t matter what anyone ran on, they can do whatever they want now
You guys really can’t see how Ds get the blame pinned on them? I mean, is how even really a relevant question?
Why does it matter who gets the blame? There is no meaningful election for two years. You think anyone is going to cite a 2024 govt shutdown when they vote in the 2026 midterms?
This is the plan. The GOP know they’re playing to dumbasses. And it works, cos it’s true.
If it causes a recession and nobody can afford eggs in two years, yeah, people will talk about it. Does it matter? Hell if I know.
Few will cite it specifically (although gov’t workers who miss paychecks tend to have long memories), but it all plays into the government is disfunctional meta that tends to favor Republicans. If people believe that government is broken and unable to do things, they’re more likely to vote for tax cuts and hope that they can get rich enough to pay for their own private solutions.
One wild version of Elon’s supposed plan is he wants to crash the world financial system so crypto is the only remaining currency and then… profit.
elon already blamed democrats for not voting for his bill, when they voted for the other one he killed. Not enough R’s voted for his bill to pass anyway.
I hate politics.
Yea but this is bog standard politics. Dems put out a semi reasonable budget, Republicans vote it down. Republicans propose a bill so conservative Republicans wouldn’t vote for it anyways, Dems vote against. Republicans blame Democrats for not voting for the giving Republicans Everything They Wanted Anyways bill.
Democrats keep proposing semi reasonable budgets until Republicans cave after seeing the polls that everyone blames them. Hopefully we get less Cruz reading Green Eggs and Ham
Maybe this time is different
I find this take from r/politics to be the most plausible:
"Historical debt is tracked by administration. If they pass a continuing resolution today, that does not rely on a debt increase, but then wait until March to actually do the full budget, then Trump’s “legacy” gets stuck with being one of the biggest debt creators in history.
On the other hand, if they say “no, Either pass the whole budget now, including the debt extension, or we’re shutting down.”
The play here is to get the few trillion in debt to show up on Biden’s record, where if the full resolution isn’t passed til after 1/20/25, the debt shows up on Trump’s record."
Do you just keep the rear camera up on the screen at all times?
i don’t think facts really matter here tbh
What I meant is that instead of a rearview mirror I have a monitor that shows a back up camera. In addition to the traditional back up camera in the dash.
Edited to add: I can flip down the screen and get a sort of rear view mirror, like when you dim idiots with their high beams on, but the read window is very tinted and there isn’t much view out of it. I’m not explaining it well:
