Was about to say they’ll probably sunset it in a way that protects most boomers, but last I checked my very own Gen X is largely a bunch of MAGA dipshits too, so fuck us all I guess.
Anyone care to opine on the likelihood they could actually abolish the fdic or is this just another appeal to fear?
It was designed to do most of the spending within 5 years.
As of May 2024, they had spent about 40%
But, they were picking up the pace, and the fact that fiscal year 2025 actually started in October let them push out another big chunk.
I’ve heard some podcasts talk about one of the big goals of Sec Pete and the other transportation people is to try to spend as much of the 2025 money before they leave, so, if I had to ballpark, maybe 70% of overall funds will be out the door before Trump comes in.
That’s pretty good actually. Way better than I would have guessed.
Whenever the question is “Can Trump do that?”, ask yourself “Who will forcibly stop him?” and you’ll have your answer.
supposedly doing that requires congressional action
Obviously getting rid of FDIC wouldn’t be a good thing to do, so they probably will try to do it
Or bribe him.
We don’t need to forcilby stop him, we can write strongly worded letters and let the norms work their magic.
The intergenerational conflict stuff has always seemed counterproductive and silly. That said my plan is to take early SS and go into hiding.
Dems are fucked.
In the end, norms are all we have. We need them like we need Earth’s magnetic field to be stable. The field can diminish and flip? Well sure, that’s bad.
We all underestimated social media’s ability to turn young people into Nazis.
Yeah, it’s not terrible. The big thing that those numbers might not take into account (if it’s just measuring by dollars spent vs dollars allocated) is how many projects are completed vs big stuff that might be banking on new allocations every fiscal year. It would not surprise me at all if a bunch of blue states end up with mostly finished bridges that don’t get finished because Trump holds the fiscal year 2026 check hostage…
Yes, they have a big advantage in a world where a large number of people get their information from influencers. Ever person on earth is born ignorant and fearful, and it’s a lifetime job to try to be less ignorant and control your fearful impulses. The ability for people to broadcast fear mongering lies to the ignorant, globally and instantaneously, is almost impossible to combat.
Just yesterday I happened upon a used copy of this book and bought it ($3 so I almost passed).
Today
I guess it’s in the air. Steam engine time.
MTG took his Trump pamphlet and threw it on the floor.

I wanted to read

the full 1,500+ page bill & speak with key leaders before
forming an opinion. Having done that, here's my view:
it's full of excessive spending, special interest giveaways
& pork barrel politics. If Congress wants to get serious about
government efficiency, they…

cliffs on this tweet are “what really pisses me off about this bill is all this wasteful spending on helping people get through disasters and farmers who voted for us”
The idea that Vivek or Elon read more than 4 pages of the bill is absurd.
I delved into the replies to Viveks tweet. Truly unhinged shit, a lot of which is fake/AI/Elon nut huggers. However, an interesting strain of the maga faithful seems to be along these lines:

I fear Speaker Johnson is going to have a rough two years.
Forcing republicans to pass their own budgets would be a ruthless move from Democrats that will never happen.
The narrative has always been that the deplorable olds will die of soon and all will be well. Can remember my hopeful father saying the same back during the Reagan years.
But the narrative has been proven without a doubt to be a false one.
